Life as You Wish is a play adapted from the short story of the same name by writer Nguyen Ngoc Tu. The play won 5 awards at the 2012 National Theater Festival.

Life Like You revolves around the life of a young man named Hai Doi (Quang Tuan) and Ba (Dieu Nhi) - a "half-crazy, half-awake" girl. Because he wanted to take care of Ba - a victim of Khuong's abuse, Hai Doi sacrificed his love for Suong (Diem Phuong). The boat - Hai Doi's only asset - did not carry the person he loved but rowed with Ba to find a place to live.

After being abused by Khuong, Ba gave birth to two children: one girl and one boy. Hai Doi decided to name the two children Nhu (played by Michelle Lai) and Y (played by La Thanh), so that when the whole family was put together, they would be called "Doi Nhu Y".

However, the tragedy began when Khuong and Suong - now husband and wife, came to Hai Doi's boat to capture their child but only wanted to capture the son because they were afraid that the daughter would go crazy like her mother.

The play "Life as You Wish" adapted from Nguyen Ngoc Tu's story has many tragic details.

Adapted from a short story by Nguyen Ngoc Tu, the play has created many more dramatic characters and situations with a strong theatrical quality, but still retains the lingering sadness and loneliness typical of "Nguyen Ngoc Tu".

In addition, the resonance between sound and stage design techniques helps Doi Nhu Y easily touch the audience's emotions. The sadness in Doi Nhu Y is portrayed more deeply by the vọng cổ lyrics from Hai Doi and Suong's voices, blending with the sad sound of the guitar. Not only that, the lullaby of a mother who "refuses to grow up" - baby Ba played by Dieu Nhi, also makes the audience feel uneasy and heartbroken.

Dieu Nhi - Quang Tuan made the audience cry with the play "Life Like You"

Recreating the river scene, Doi Nhu Y brought the audience back to the human condition of the Southwest region through the images of sampans, rows of water coconut trees or thatched-roof houses. In addition, the scenes of the performances were elaborately staged and constantly changed, making Nguyen Ngoc Tu's short stories appear before the audience's eyes. This is also one of the highlights of the World Youth Drama Theater: the rotating stage system, diverse props and modern, flexible stage planning make the audience's experience even more satisfying.

The play "Doi Nhu Y" brings together prominent faces in both theater and cinema: Quang Tuan, Hoang Phi, Hong Trang, Diem Phuong... Notably, this is also the play that marks Dieu Nhi's return to the World Youth Theater - the "cradle" that brought the actress to acting. Taking on the role of Ba, a character that was previously portrayed very successfully by actors Ngoc Trinh and Le Phuong, Dieu Nhi still makes the audience laugh - because of the naivety and mischief of a child who "refuses to grow up" - and then constantly shed tears because of her very sincere and pitiful emotions.

Transforming into a character with an "abnormal" mentality, Dieu Nhi's alertness and concentration were pushed to the highest level. Because if the actress shed tears in a climax scene, all the images of the "half-awake, half-crazy" girl that had been built before would completely collapse. It can be said that the play "Doi Nhu Y" continues to be a place for Dieu Nhi to challenge and discover herself after her successes with many roles in movies. With her sincere and emotional acting talent, along with her ability to transform on stage, Dieu Nhi, in her return with "Doi Nhu Y", made the audience laugh and then cry for her "half-awake, half-asleep" character.

Dieu Nhi just got married to actor Anh Tu at the end of October.

Meanwhile, Quang Tuan's mature acting also fully portrayed the image of a chivalrous and righteous character of the Southern land. The actor continued to bring tears to the audience when he transformed into a tragic character, fully expressing the suffering and heart-wrenching through each trembling hand or voice thick with helplessness. In addition, the rhythmic and graceful juggling of the supporting characters such as Mr. Tam the Pork (Hoang Phi), Mrs. Sau the Beggar (Hong Trang), brought a sweet, simple taste of the South, "soothing" the anguish and torment in the lives of people in the river region.

Sharing about her return to drama, especially the World Youth Drama Stage, Dieu Nhi confided: “It feels like just recently. Everyone asked me if I was nervous after a long time returning to the stage. I was nervous because I played a role that my seniors had played before, and played it very well. But I was not nervous when I returned to the stage. I felt excited, very happy and even wished for the moment to step on stage to come quickly. I was very impatient to perform, the show was at 8pm but I was already on stage at 6pm.”

This year, the World Youth Drama Theater has rehearsed and re-performed many famous plays such as Hoa hon, Hon ma co dao hat, Chuyen tinh Bangkok, Doi nhu y... and received great support from the audience. In addition, in early 2022, the play Nguoc gio by the World Youth Drama Theater also excellently received the Silver Medal at the 2021 National Drama Festival.

Established in 2009, The Gioi Tre Drama Stage is the "launching pad" for many prominent faces in the field of theater and cinema such as: Tieu Bao Quoc, Thu Trang, Quang Tuan, Dieu Nhi, Hoang Phi, La Thanh, Nam Thu, Minh Du, Phuong Lan...

As one of the famous drama stages in Ho Chi Minh City, The Gioi Tre Drama Stage will continue to select diverse and rich scripts, increasingly affirming its dedication to preserving and developing drama - a unique art form, imbued with cultural values and humanistic spirit.
