The People's Committee of Binh Lieu district, Quang Ninh province, has decided to suspend teacher CTLT from teaching to verify and clarify her responsibility related to a second grade student who was hit on the head with a ruler.
Previously, at around 3:00 p.m. on April 9, 2024, while doing homework in the second period, math class 2 at Na Nhai school - Vo Ngai Primary School (Vo Ngai commune, Binh Lieu district, Quang Ninh), Ms. CTLT gave instructions but student PTL could not do it and could not concentrate.
Ms. T. reminded her but to no avail, then used a ruler to hit her on the head. She then studied normally, but at the end of the class, her eyes were swollen.
At 5:15 p.m. the same day, the family discovered that L. had swollen eyes and a headache and called the homeroom teacher to inform him. Afterwards, L. was taken by his family and teacher to the Binh Lieu District Medical Center for examination and treatment; then he was taken to the Quang Ninh Provincial General Hospital.
On the evening of April 9, Vo Ngai Primary School sent a working group to Binh Lieu District Medical Center to visit L. and encourage her family. Ms. CTLT apologized to the family and pledged to pay the hospital fees, support and care for the student.
According to test results from Quang Ninh General Hospital, L. did not suffer brain damage, only swelling of the soft tissue of the head and eyes on both sides.
On April 11, the District People's Committee issued Decision No. 539/QD-UBND suspending teacher CTLT from teaching to verify and clarify responsibilities in the incident.
The district People's Committee has directed specialized agencies, functional forces, the People's Committee of Vo Ngai commune and the school to continue to inspect and verify the incident; at the same time, organize visits and care for students; coordinate with parents to handle related issues.
At the same time, it is noted that units and localities continue to strictly implement regulations on school safety, not allowing acts of school violence, violations of teachers' ethics, and violations of the law by teachers and students.
