Suspend the principal for letting 11 students share breakfast with 2 packs of instant noodles

On December 17, in response to information reflecting that students of Hoang Thu Pho 1 Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities (PTDT) (Bac Ha district, Lao Cai ) had inadequate meals, the People's Committee of Bac Ha district held an urgent meeting and agreed to temporarily suspend the principal of this school.

Accordingly, Mr. Tran Ngoc Ha (born in 1977), Principal of Hoang Thu Pho 1 Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, was suspended from his position for 15 days, starting from December 17. During the suspension period, Mr. Ha is responsible for coordinating with the authorities to verify and clarify related information.

According to Mr. Dinh Van Dang, Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Ha district, immediately after receiving information about the incident, even though it was a day off, the district held an urgent meeting to clarify the information reflecting that "11 students ate 2 packs of instant noodles with rice during their boarding meals".

"The district's view is that any violations will be strictly handled," Mr. Dang emphasized.

Regarding the incident, the Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee has issued an official dispatch, requesting the People's Committee of Bac Ha district to preside over and coordinate with the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training and relevant units to urgently inspect and clarify the reflected information, and seriously handle violations against groups and individuals (if any).

At the same time, the leaders of Lao Cai province also requested the Department of Education and Training to preside over and coordinate with the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to review the organization of meals for boarding and semi-boarding students and the implementation of other policies for students ateducational institutions under their management; strictly direct the implementation of regulations on financial management, assets, procurement of educational equipment and regulations on teachers' ethics; strengthen state management of education; actively build a safe, healthy and friendly educational environment.

On December 16, the press reported that meals for students at Hoang Thu Pho 1 Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities did not meet the prescribed quota and the food was of poor quality.

Specifically, during breakfast at school, 11 students shared 2 packs of instant noodles cooked thinly with rice. While the school's menu and financial disclosure clearly stated that 174 boarding students were entitled to 1 pack of instant noodles and 1 egg for breakfast each. Breakfast was not enough in quantity, lunch and dinner were no better when each tray for 11 people only had a little chopped ham, a pot of watery soup, and even the vegetables for the students to eat were rotten and spoiled.
