On behalf of the Vietnamese Embassy in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Comrade Do Minh Hung - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary attended the ceremony.
On the side of Newhaven Government, there was the presence of Ms. Kim Bishop - Mayor of Newhaven town and Mr. Davi Kent - Director of Newhaven Museum.

In her opening speech, Mayor Kim Bishop welcomed the delegation of Nghe An province to the opening ceremony of the exhibition honoring President Ho Chi Minh at the Newhaven Museum and emphasized the special significance of the ceremony. Mayor Bishop affirmed that President Ho Chi Minh is a great historical symbol not only of Vietnam but also has a deep connection with the town of Newhaven - the place where he is believed to have first stopped in the UK more than a century ago. She also affirmed that this event contributes to strengthening the friendly relationship between Vietnam and the UK in general, between Nghe An province and the town of Newhaven in particular.
Mr. Davi Kent - Director of the Museum said that the new exhibition area was built with the desire to honor President Ho Chi Minh, who left a historical mark on Newhaven when working here in the early 20th century. The museum currently holds many valuable documents related to his journey as well as the town's maritime history.

Representing the delegation, Comrade Hoang Nghia Hieu expressed his emotion when witnessing the respect of the Government and people of Newhaven for President Ho Chi Minh. He thanked the efforts to preserve and honor the historical values associated with him, and affirmed that this is a vivid symbol of the friendship between the two countries.
Comrade Hoang Nghia Hieu also reviewed the achievements in the Vietnam - UK relationship after more than 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations and 15 years of establishing the Strategic Partnership. In particular, cooperation in the fields of economics, trade, education... has grown stronger and stronger. The UK is currently Vietnam's third largest trading partner in Europe, Vietnam's ninth largest export market and one of the major investors in the Vietnamese market.

At the ceremony, the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council affirmed that Nghe An always attaches importance to the cooperative relationship with British localities, including Newhaven town. He expressed his desire to expand bilateral cooperation in areas such as culture, tourism, education and trade. On this occasion, he respectfully invited the delegation of Newhaven town and Newhaven Museum to visit and work in Nghe An in the near future.
Within the framework of the program, the delegation of Nghe An province visited Newhaven port - where the patriotic young man Nguyen Tat Thanh first set foot when he came to the UK on his journey to find a way to save the country in the early 20th century.
