After the first half of 2024, the Vietnamese auto market recorded a slight decline in sales. This has forced many automakers to change their strategies, and Thaco is no exception. According to the latest update from July, Mazda6 only has two versions using the 2.0L engine (Luxury and Premium), while the 2.5L engine version has been removed from the product catalog.
Currently on the official website of Mazda Vietnam, Mazda6 only has 2 versions using 2.0L engine (Luxury and Premium)
Currently, on the official website of Mazda Vietnam, Mazda6 only has two 2.0L versions with prices ranging from 769 million to 809 million VND. This price is almost equivalent to some C-class sedans, although Mazda6 is classified in the D-class segment.
Mazda6 is equipped with a 2.0L SkyActiv-G engine, producing a maximum capacity of 154 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, maximum torque of 200 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The car uses a 6-speed automatic transmission, front-wheel drive, with a sport driving mode. Mazda6 also has many driving support features to increase control such as acceleration control and smart stop/start system.
It is understandable that Thaco has cut down on the Mazda6 version as this sedan model has not achieved high sales in the context of Vietnamese consumers increasingly preferring high-chassis cars. This not only affects the Mazda6 but also the entire D-class sedan segment.
Mazda6 has only 2 versions using 2.0L engine (Luxury and Premium) with selling price of 769 - 809 million VND.
In the first half of 2024, Mazda6 sold only 237 cars, ranking second in the segment but still far behind Toyota Camry with 660 cars sold in the same period. Due to the sharp decrease in demand, Mazda6 will focus on two 2.0L versions, targeting customers who want a spacious car like D-class but with a price equivalent to C-class cars.
Thaco is counting on the government ’s 50% registration fee subsidy policy to boost sales of the Mazda6. However, in the long term, sedans are expected to find it increasingly difficult to attract customers, and the version reduction adjustment is likely to continue in the future.
