Through the survey, many enterprises showed a proactive spirit of innovation, boldly applying digital transformation and moving towards a high-tech agricultural model towards deep processing and sustainable production. The need for support focuses on the main groups: Investment in processing equipment and technology, consulting on quality standards and intellectual property, as well as training in science and technology and business management to improve product quality and expand the market.
Young businesses proactively innovate
Director of Nalee Vietnam Joint Stock Company (Bien Ho commune) Le Thi Lan said that the company is trading more than 60 products mainly through e-commerce platforms, with an average quarterly revenue of more than 2 billion VND. Dried bananas are the main product with a purchase volume of over 80 tons of fresh bananas per month, increasing to 120 tons during Tet. The company wishes to be supported or co-sponsored for freeze-drying, cold-drying, vacuum-fried drying lines and automatic warehouse systems. The company is also completing ISO and plans to register OCOP for 20 products early next year. In the long term, the company proposes to support a 20-hectare land fund for banana cultivation to build a stable raw material area and develop a closed value chain.

Also in Bien Ho commune, A Lua One Member Co., Ltd., a young enterprise just over a year old, has impressed with its methodical approach despite developing from the traditional banana drying business. Every day, the enterprise buys about 500 kg of fresh bananas, with revenue reaching 300-400 million VND/quarter. In addition to selling through e-commerce platforms, the products are also supplied to hotels, specialty stores and coffee shops. To proactively source raw materials, the enterprise grows 2.5 hectares of bananas and hopes to receive support in researching varieties, processing technology and product R&D to improve competitiveness.
In addition to the two typical enterprises above, other enterprises such as Tropico Highland Coffee Company Limited, Tran Lam Gia Phat One Member Company Limited, Hai Binh Gia Lai Cashew Joint Stock Company and Phuong Di Global Joint Stock Company also raised the need for appropriate support, from processing equipment, IoT applications to building standards and developing export markets. The common point is the spirit of digital transformation, towards green production and exploiting the value of local specialties, although still facing limitations in capital, governance and policy information.
Accompanying to improve
According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Ha - Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology, enterprises in the West of the province have a clear orientation for innovation but are still limited in terms of investment resources, professional management and policy access. Some enterprises have not focused on intellectual property, traceability or export standards. Each unit has its own support needs related to technology, product quality and market expansion, reflecting the diverse but challenging picture of the regional startup ecosystem.
Immediately after the survey, the Department of Science and Technology assigned specialized departments to guide enterprises in completing their dossiers, connecting with national startup experts for direct consultation and preparing to organize investment connection programs. Support activities will focus on modern processing technology, consulting on standards - e-commerce - intellectual property, training of human resources in science and technology and trade promotion.
Mr. Ha said that in the coming time, the Center for Science Discovery and Innovation will continue to conduct periodic surveys to grasp the situation of enterprises and propose that the province issue and adjust appropriate support policies, contributing to creating a favorable environment for innovation and sustainable local economic development.
With the support of the Department of Science and Technology, many young businesses in the Western region are having more motivation to innovate technology, expand production and reach out to the market. Positive signals show that a potential startup ecosystem is forming, where models based on local agricultural products, when properly supported, will become an important driving force for local economic growth.
