In the last days of April, people flocked to the special national relic of Quang Tri Citadel to pay their respects to the heroic martyrs. Many visitors were moved when they heard stories about the fierce days of more than 50 years ago, the time of the 81 historic days and nights.

In April, almost every day at the special national relic of Quang Tri Citadel (Quang Tri Town, Quang Tri Province), there are groups of buses carrying visitors from all over the provinces and cities. Some are descendants of heroic martyrs, some are veterans who fought here more than 50 years ago, in the fiery summer of 1972. Everyone is moved when setting foot on the sacred "red address".

Mr. Le Van Sy (residing in Nghe An) said that on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification (April 30), he and some families in the neighborhood organized a journey back to the source, visiting "red addresses" in Ha Tinh , Quang Binh, and Quang Tri.

"Setting foot in Quang Tri Citadel, I was very proud but also moved when the tour guide here recounted the fierce days of the 81 historic days and nights. You sacrificed at such a young age to protect the country, so that our generation can live in peace today," Mr. Si was moved.

Ms. Cap Thi Thien Trang, Head of the Management Board of the General Secretary Le Duan Memorial Site and Quang Tri Citadel, said that in April, on peak days, more than 6,500 visitors could come to the Quang Tri Citadel National Special Relic to offer incense and pay tribute to the heroic martyrs. To serve the reception work, the management board has mobilized 100% of its staff, opening the door to welcome visitors day and night.

"Quang Tri Citadel is a "red address" that people across the country turn to to pay tribute to martyrs. Anticipating the number of visitors from all over the country coming here, the management board has organized activities and mobilized all forces to serve in the best way," said Ms. Trang.

The memorial was modeled as a common grave, becoming a symbol of Quang Tri Citadel.

Currently, Quang Tri province is planning to invest in the construction, upgrading and restoration of a number of works belonging to the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel National Special Relic. According to this plan, Quang Tri province will preserve and restore a number of items in Quang Tri Ancient Citadel and memorial sites of the 81 days and nights of fighting to protect Quang Tri Ancient Citadel.

Tourists are guided by tour guides to recount the fierce fighting days that the heroic martyrs experienced in Quang Tri in 1972.
