Dong Thap: Overcoming landslide incident at Thuong Thoi Tien embankment

Regarding the project to prevent erosion of the Tien River bank in the area of ​​Thuong Thoi Tien town (Hong Ngu district, Dong Thap province) which was eroded by hundreds of meters, on the afternoon of May 7, Vice Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee Huynh Minh Tuan chaired a meeting to listen to a report on the situation and propose a solution.

Accordingly, Vice Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee Huynh Minh Tuan agreed to hire a consulting unit with appropriate capacity and experience to survey and comprehensively assess the safety risks and propose fundamental and effective solutions to overcome the subsidence situation.

Assign the Department of Agriculture and Environment as the investor responsible for reviewing the necessary content to be surveyed and evaluated to ensure savings and efficiency; organize the selection of a consulting unit to perform the above tasks in compliance with bidding procedures and current legal regulations on construction management; ensure thorough handling of subsidence locations, reinforce potential unsafe locations before the flood season of 2025.

In addition, the People's Committee of Hong Ngu district needs to strengthen the management and handling of cases of anchoring watercraft in the construction protection corridor and monitor the load of vehicles circulating on the internal road system of the embankment to ensure that it is within the design load.

The landslide section of Thuong Thoi Tien embankment is 116m long.

Previously, the Thuong Thoi Tien embankment was eroded with a total length of about 116m. This is a project "Managing and Mitigating Drought and Flood Risks in the Greater Mekong Subregion" funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), with a total embankment length of 4,065m. The project was accepted and put into use in 2019.
