According to the investor, the project has a total investment of more than VND 1,820 billion in phase 1, with a design capacity of 300,000 m³/day and night, expected to be completed and put into operation in the fourth quarter of 2026. The project includes pumping stations and a pipeline about 115 km long, bringing non-saline raw water from the Tien River and Nguyen Tan Thanh canal to existing clean water plants in Dong Thap , Tay Ninh and Vinh Long.

When operational, the project will provide water for more than 2 million people, meeting the needs of daily life, production and serving key industrial zones in the region. Phase 2 is expected to expand the pipeline from Cai Be area - My Thuan bridge, increasing the capacity to 600,000 m³/day and night, forming a continuous fresh water supply network between the provinces along the Tien River.
The Mekong Delta is heavily affected by saltwater intrusion, drought, and depletion of groundwater resources. Many localities, including Dong Thap, Tay Ninh , and Vinh Long, frequently experience shortages of drinking water, especially during the dry season.

At the groundbreaking ceremony on October 24th, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Tuong Van stated that investing in a large-scale water supply project based on a regional model "has strategic significance for water security and sustainable development of the entire region," and also demonstrates a new approach in developing infrastructure to respond to climate change.
Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province, Nguyen Thanh Dieu, also expressed his hope that the project would help the province proactively respond to saltwater intrusion, ensure water security, and promote socio-economic development in the border region along the Tien River.

Mr. Hoang Minh Hung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of DNP Water, said that the project is invested in a long-term orientation, serving both the people and supporting production and industrial zones. When completed, the factory will not only be a technical infrastructure but also a project demonstrating the social responsibility and commitment of the enterprise to sustainable development towards the community.
The Dong Tam Raw Water Treatment Plant project is considered the first step in DNP Water's inter-regional water supply system planning, contributing to reducing dependence on dwindling groundwater resources. Alongside this, the company is researching the Southwest Hau River Raw Water Treatment Plant project to supply fresh water to Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, and Can Tho, the localities most severely affected by climate change.
Currently, DNP Water has more than 23 member and affiliated companies, with a total water supply capacity of over 1 million m³/day. The company aims to develop synchronized water infrastructure projects, ensuring water security and improving the quality of life for people in the Mekong Delta region in the long term.
