“Border Marks”: An impressive journey to visit border landmarks

In late October, the “Border Imprints” journey brought visitors the opportunity to experience special destinations along the Vietnam-Cambodia border in the two provinces of An Giang and Dong Thap. The journey not only suggested new directions for developing tourism products for the Southern region, but also aroused national pride through sacred imprints on the Fatherland’s borders.

In Dong Thap , tourists begin their journey at milestone 232 at Dinh Ba International Border Gate, a place that commemorates the indomitable spirit of the border region's soldiers and civilians in defending the Fatherland. Next is milestone 235 at Moc Ra Border Gate, a special double milestone located next to the So Thuong River, a testament to the efforts in demarcation and boundary marking in complex terrain. The final stop in the locality is milestone 240 at Thuong Phuoc International Border Gate, a hub of bustling land and river trade routes.

Upon arriving in An Giang, the journey continues at milestone 275 at the Tinh Bien International Border Gate, a vibrant trading center in the southwestern border region. Tinh Bien Market offers visitors unique cultural experiences, reflecting the distinct Vietnamese-Khmer cultural exchange. Particularly, milestones 301, 313, and 314 in Giang Thanh - Ha Tien help visitors deeply understand the significance of protecting the national border.

In addition, tourists also stop to offer incense at the Temple of Heroic Martyrs and Youth Volunteers of Route 1C, visit the Mac Cuu Mausoleum, and other landmarks associated with the expansion, exploration, and preservation of the southwesternmost region of the country.

The "Borderland Impressions" journey is considered an educational, experiential, and community-based tourism product, helping visitors better understand the sacred significance of border sovereignty , while also contributing to promoting the image of the genuine, resilient, and hospitable people of the Southwestern region of Vietnam.

Besides visiting border markers, tourists also visit and offer incense and flowers at the Memorial Temple for the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives on the legendary Highway 1C.

Many tourists expressed their admiration for the picturesque river landscapes and the historical stories associated with each landmark. The journey also brought a sense of pride as they witnessed firsthand the "borders of peace," where the people and military of both countries maintain friendly and cooperative relations.

The program, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism in coordination with local authorities, took place from October 23rd to 25th, with the participation of many travel agencies and tourism service providers in the city. According to Mr. Nguyen Huu An, Deputy Head of the Tourism Resource Development Planning Department (Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism), the survey aimed to research and develop new tourism products linked to border experiences, contributing to diversifying tourism products in terms of origin, strengthening development linkages between Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Thap, and An Giang, and creating a unique identity for tourism in the Mekong Delta region.
