Domestic pepper prices updated on the afternoon of May 23, 2025

Recorded on May 23, the domestic pepper market suddenly turned sharply down after a series of days of slight fluctuations and sideways movement, currently pepper prices fluctuate from 146,000 - 147,000 VND/kg.

The Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that world pepper prices are currently maintained at a high level due to tight supply after the harvest season and expectations of increased demand from the Middle Eastern and European markets in the second quarter of 2025. However, the current main price trend is still sideways, with a narrow range of fluctuations.

In the domestic market, pepper prices in mid-May 2025 decreased across key growing areas compared to the same period in April 2025.

Farmers in Gia Lai province harvest pepper.

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), the domestic market has not yet shown signs of recovery due to weak consumption and a wait-and-see mentality. Many farmers are still not interested in expanding their cultivation area because current prices are not attractive enough to offset investment risks.

In addition, the trend of shifting to growing durian, avocado and other crops with higher economic value is becoming more popular. Limited land is also a major barrier to expanding pepper growing areas.

Currently, among the 10 largest pepper export markets of Vietnam in the first 4 months of 2025, the UK market has the strongest growth rate. According to statistics from the Customs Department, Vietnam's pepper exports to the UK market reached 2.33 thousand tons, worth 17.05 million USD, up 22.7% in volume and 97.9% in value over the same period in 2024.
