Domestic pepper prices updated on the afternoon of May 29, 2025 |
Recorded on May 29, the domestic and world pepper markets tended to decrease, especially the export price of Vietnamese pepper decreased sharply after a long period of stability.
According to statistics, since the beginning of April 2025, pepper prices have started to decline due to concerns about the new US tariff policy. Uncertainties related to import taxes have directly affected market sentiment, making trading and order signing activities more cautious.
As of May 20, Brazilian black pepper prices have decreased by 200 USD/ton, Vietnam's by 400-500 USD/ton and Malaysia's by the most, by 700 USD/ton.

According to a recent report by Ptexim, pepper prices fell 4.6% last week. The main reason is the instability in US tax policy, which has reduced importer confidence.
The report also pointed out that inventories in bonded warehouses in the US and EU are decreasing quite rapidly. In the context of the unclear tariff level with the US, many importers are cautious, temporarily stopping signing new orders and waiting for the results of tariff negotiations in the next few weeks.
If tariffs are negotiated and applied harmonized across countries, import demand in many countries is likely to surge as companies need to replenish inventories.
Meanwhile, freight rates to the EU and the US have increased sharply, by around 20–30% over the past week. The main reason is that Chinese companies have increased exports to the US during the delay in the imposition of reciprocal tariffs on some goods. This has caused a surge in demand for containers and shipping vessels from the Chinese market, leading to a sharp increase in freight rates.
