On June 4, the domestic pepper market tended to “slow down” and move sideways compared to many previous declines. Statistics show that after only one day of improvement at the beginning of the week, domestic pepper prices fluctuated downward again.
Business people believe that the current fluctuating domestic pepper prices are making farmers and traders hesitant in purchasing and bringing their products to the market. This development reflects the instability in supply and demand and the risk-averse mentality of business people.
According to experts, the 90-day suspension of the 46% tax rate has passed by two-thirds, and nothing is certain yet. Although businesses are actively expanding pepper export markets, it is undeniable that the US is still the country that imported the most pepper from Vietnam last year.

The compensation of the US market for China in recent times has helped domestic pepper prices remain high, even in the two most recent harvests. However, with the risk of high reciprocal taxes, exporting to this market will certainly be more difficult and less profitable than before.

Update on world pepper prices from the International Pepper Community (IPC) on the afternoon of June 4, 2025 as follows: the pepper market continues to be stable and sideways compared to yesterday's trading session.
Specifically, IPC listed the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper at 7,428 USD/ton; similarly, Muntok white pepper is currently purchased at 10,129 USD/ton.
The Malaysian pepper market remains stable, currently the price of Malaysian ASTA black pepper is purchased at 9,150 USD/ton and the price of ASTA white pepper is at 11,850 USD/ton.
Pepper prices in Brazil remained stable, with little change compared to the previous trading session. The current purchase price is 6,650 USD/ton.
Vietnam's pepper export market is stable and increased slightly compared to the previous trading session. Currently, the export price of Vietnamese black pepper is at 6,500 USD/ton for 500 g/l; 550 g/l is at 6,600 USD/ton and the price of white pepper is at 9,500 USD/ton.
