After Queen Mother Sirikit - mother of King Maha Vajiralongkorn - passed away, information spread on social networks that the Thai government issued a ban on all entertainment and tourism activities for 30 days.

However, according to local media, no bans have been issued, and tourism activities are still taking place normally, just adjusted to suit the national mourning atmosphere.

According to Nation Thailand , the rumor that "private businesses are banned from organizing entertainment activities for 30 days" is incorrect.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul affirmed: “The government has not issued any ban or official resolution to stop tourism or entertainment activities. We only call on units to adjust the scale and form to suit the solemn atmosphere, showing respect to Queen Mother Sirikit.”

In Pattaya city, authorities said the 2025 Pattaya International Fireworks Festival will still be held on November 28-29 as planned, but will be adjusted to be more solemn.

Mr. Poramet Ngampichet - Mayor of Pattaya - shared: "This year's festival will open with the performance of "Eternal Royal Light" - symbolizing the love, loyalty and devotion of Queen Mother Sirikit.

The program also featured a Khon performance - a traditional masked dance that the Queen Mother worked hard to preserve.

“Pattaya is a tourist city, so we need to balance the economy and the people’s emotions. This year’s festival will be both solemn and beautiful, worthy of the memory of Her Majesty the Queen,” Mr. Poramet said.

Previously, the Tourism Authority of Thailand confirmed the postponement of the "Vijit Chao Phraya 2025" light festival along the Chao Phraya River (Bangkok) from November 1 to December 1 to adjust the program content to suit the context of national mourning.

What should tourists pay attention to when coming to Thailand at this time?

Sharing with Dan Tri reporters about whether Vietnamese tourists need to change their tour plans in Thailand, the Tourism Authority of Thailand in Vietnam said that during the national mourning period, some events and festivals will be reduced in scale, entertainment programs will be reduced or the program name will be changed, but all tourism, shopping and sightseeing activities will still take place normally.

As such, visitors do not need to cancel or reschedule their itinerary, but are advised to dress modestly and discreetly, especially when visiting spiritual sites or attending public events.

Pattaya Mayor also encouraged visitors to wear traditional royal attire or casual clothes with a black ribbon to show respect.

In addition, actions and words that are disrespectful to the Royal Family should be avoided. During ceremonies or performances, the instructions of the organizers should be followed and excessive displays of amusement should be limited.

The national mourning period is considered a quiet time for Thailand, but it does not significantly affect international tourism activities. Tourists can still come to Thailand as usual, just need to behave appropriately and respect the general atmosphere.

Popular destinations such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya… are still open to welcome visitors as usual. Experts expect Thailand to continue to maintain a strong recovery of the tourism industry in the last quarter of 2025 - albeit in a more solemn and profound atmosphere than usual.
