The world premiere of Dearest Viet - a film about the younger brother Nguyen Duc of the Viet-Duc twins - took place on the evening of April 8.
This is probably one of the most touching film screenings of the Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival (HIFF) 2024.
The interpreter had to stop speaking and burst into tears when he saw Nguyen Duc's emotional tears.
When the film ended and he stepped forward to interact with the audience, Nguyen Duc cried like rain because this was the most authentic film about his life, where he dedicated all his love to his late brother Nguyen Viet and his small family.
"Anh Viet, I love you so much and always think about you"
"This is my most real film, the most real in every detail as well as the reportage about me. I am never an ordinary person because I have suffered a lot.
Besides the surgery in 1988, I had to undergo surgery many times after that without anyone knowing, only my mother Phuong knew. She encouraged me to try, it was very painful but I still tried because of two factors.
The first factor is because of my brother Viet. The second is because I want to live, want to see my two children grow up, succeed, and live a useful life in society."

Nguyen Duc, 43 years old, shared with mixed emotions after watching the movie about his life.
This film is a letter containing Nguyen Duc's sincere feelings to his twin brother Nguyen Viet who passed away at the age of 26 in 2007.
Since then, Nguyen Duc has lived with the combined strength of two people. He is cheerful, active, positive and strongly inspires people despite having to fight the pain in his body caused by illness.
And until now, those pains have not gone away but are becoming more persistent, making Duc's life not easy because he is the pillar of a family of five.
The film Dearest Viet takes the audience to Germany of the present.
He is a husband, father of 14-year-old twins Phu Si and Anh Dao, working at Hoa Binh village of Tu Du Hospital - home to abandoned children, like him and Nguyen Viet in the past.
The two children were like the image of Duc in his youth: cheerful, active, and still carefree. Every time dad told stories about Uncle Viet, or looked back at the pictures of dad and Uncle Viet when they were together, both were very emotional, sometimes embarrassed and unable to express their thoughts.
"Anh Viet, when the movie is released, I hope Anh Viet understands that I wanted to make this movie to dedicate to you. You sacrificed so that I could have today. I tried to live a good life to fulfill my responsibilities, to enjoy what you have not enjoyed yet.
"I love you so much and always think about you" - Duc said at the end of the film.
Little Duc in Phuong's arms
The exchange also had a special moment when doctor, Labor Hero, People's Physician Nguyen Thi Ngoc Phuong attended and went on stage to encourage Nguyen Duc.
She is the person he calls Mother Phuong, the person who wholeheartedly loved, cared for and looked after the two brothers before and during the surgery in 1988, as well as supported them on the difficult journey of life afterwards.

Because he was abandoned at birth, he did not feel the love from his biological parents (the movie mentioned this frankly and painfully), but in return he received great love from the kind people in this life.
Doctor Phuong said Duc is now 43 years old but she still calls him "little Duc", like when she held him in her arms, took him to Japan to treat the twins, then returned to Vietnam to prepare for surgery.
With her hand always on Duc's shoulder, she shared: "I also had an impact so that the Department of Health and the government allowed the surgery, because if he didn't have the surgery, Duc would live in dependence on Viet forever and wouldn't be able to develop.
I think the most humane thing is to separate the two children. Viet has his own part. As for Duc, he is alert, healthy, capable, and strong, so he can have his own independent life. He can go to school, work, have a happy family, and have children.
The surgery was not a technical success, but I consider it a great success in terms of human values, giving people a relatively normal life. I love Duc very much. Since the surgery, Duc has tried very hard, he studies well and speaks Japanese well, and does a lot of volunteer work to help society."

Worried about Nguyen Duc's current health
Sharing with Tuoi Tre Online , doctor Nguyen Thi Ngoc Phuong said that Nguyen Duc's health is currently not good.
His kidneys have been infected many times so he has to have a catheter inserted in his body, if the infection gets worse it will be very worrying.
She hopes that a kidney transplant will give him a chance at a healthy life.
As described in the movie Dearest Viet , he had to go to the hospital regularly to have his tube changed.
Each tube change is very painful and must be kept very clean to avoid infection.
"I am worried because Duc's children are only 14 years old, and only Duc works in the family. Duc's wife has to stay home to take care of the children and her mother who has cancer," said Dr. Ngoc Phuong.
Reuniting on the evening of April 8, Phuong's mother asked why he had been feeling so sick lately. Nguyen Duc replied that he had to go on a strict diet as ordered by the doctor.
