According to the Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, Typhoon No. 13 was the strongest typhoon to hit the province in decades, with wind speeds of level 10-12, gusts of level 14, a wide area of impact, and a rapid movement speed, causing serious damage to people and property.

“In this urgent situation, the province activated a proactive, early, and higher-level response plan; established a forward command post, mobilized armed forces on duty 24/7, and evacuated more than 90,000 households with over 300,000 people as quickly and safely as possible. Amidst the storm, forces rescued more than 200 people from collapsed houses and deeply flooded areas, minimizing casualties,” said Mr. Pham Anh Tuan.

Although casualties were limited, the storm caused extensive damage to infrastructure and homes. Hundreds of houses collapsed, tens of thousands had their roofs blown off or were damaged; many schools, hospitals, and the electricity, water, and communication systems were destroyed; and thousands of hectares of rice paddies, crops, boats, and aquaculture cages were swept away.
In particular, the coastal area of Quy Nhon city - the economic , social, and tourism center of the province, once honored as an "ASEAN Clean Tourism City" and ranked among the top 25 most attractive destinations in the world in 2026 according to Lonely Planet - has now been severely devastated by the storm.
According to preliminary statistics, the damage caused by Typhoon No. 13 is estimated at around 5,200 billion VND, but the actual damage may be even greater.

In his appeal letter, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan requested that the entire political system ensure food, shelter, clean water, and medicine for the people; urgently repair essential infrastructure; the armed forces play a core role in supporting the reconstruction of houses, restoring transportation routes, and maintaining security and order; and the business community join hands to support resources and means to help people restore production. He urged the people of all ethnic groups in the province to uphold the spirit of self-reliance and solidarity, helping each other overcome the consequences of the storm without waiting or relying on others, while also maintaining environmental hygiene and preventing disease outbreaks after the storm.
The urgent tasks set by the province include: ensuring social security, preventing people from going without food, clean water, or shelter; restoring transportation, electricity, telecommunications, schools, and hospitals; providing appropriate, sufficient, and timely support, and absolutely preventing any loss or corruption.

In the long term, the province has identified two parallel tasks: fundamentally and sustainably overcoming the consequences of natural disasters; and restoring production, developing socio-economic activities, striving to complete and surpass the targets for 2025, maintaining double-digit growth targets for the 2026-2030 period, and building Gia Lai into a rapidly and sustainably developing province.
Mr. Pham Anh Tuan stated that the work of overcoming the consequences of Typhoon No. 13 is being urgently implemented by the entire political system of the province, and the situation is gradually stabilizing.
“We prioritize restoring the education and healthcare systems, first and foremost to get students back to school as soon as possible. The storm severely damaged the transportation and power systems, with 98% of the province experiencing power outages at one point. However, by late this evening (November 10), 90% of the damage had been repaired, and it is expected to be completed tomorrow (November 11),” Mr. Pham Anh Tuan informed.
Simultaneously, the province is focusing on supporting households whose homes have collapsed or been damaged, with the overarching principle being "to ensure that no one goes hungry or is left homeless."
