On the afternoon of May 28, Rachel Gupta posted on Instagram to her 1.4 million followers that she was stepping down as Miss Grand International 2024 and returning her crown. She wrote: "Being crowned was one of the biggest dreams of my life and I was filled with hope and pride to represent my country and make history. However, in the months since my coronation, I have been disappointed by the broken promises, mistreatment and toxic work environment that I can no longer endure in silence."
Rachel added that this was not an easy decision for her. The 21-year-old beauty said that in the coming days, she will share more details about her difficult journey. She also apologized to fans around the world for disappointing them, and thanked everyone for their support and love throughout the past time.
Immediately after Rachel Gupta posted the article, the Miss Grand International (MGI) organization announced that her title was revoked immediately. MGI explained that the reigning beauty queen was dethroned because she "failed to fulfill her assigned duties, participated in outside projects without prior approval from the organization, and refused to participate in a scheduled trip to Guatemala." The organization asked Rachel Gupta to return the crown within 30 days.
Rachel Gupta was crowned Miss Grand International on October 25, 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand. She is the first Indian to win the crown, beating out more than 70 contestants from around the world, including Vo Le Que Anh. Rachel was only 20 years old when she won the crown. After the contest, she, along with the runners-up and President Nawat, participated in several charity activities and events in Thailand.
Rachel Gupta was born on January 23, 2004 in Punjab, India. She is 1.78 m tall and started modeling in 2022 and won the title of Miss Supertalent of the World in Paris that same year. In August 2024, she won the Miss Grand India 2024 pageant.
Miss Grand International is one of the most popular beauty pageants today. The pageant is an annual beauty pageant founded and run by Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil since 2013, headquartered in Thailand.
