Singer Duy Manh’s recent sharing at the talk show Revealing the Showbiz curtain of the Lao Dong Newspaper (broadcast on YouTube channel Revealing the Showbiz curtain) has stirred up the online community. -Reporter: Why do you consider yourself a "singer" and not a singer or artist like many people?

Singer Duy Manh: - I started out as a musician and until now, my main job is still writing music. I am loved and invited to shows so I sing. Singing to earn money is just singing, nothing else. As a singer and artist, in addition to singing, I also have to be responsible and contribute to the community.

Singing just for money is just being a singer. Of course, I am striving every day to be a real singer, a meaningful artist.

- But people say you "use yourself to mock your colleagues' music"?

No, I like to joke around and have fun, I don't want to attack or mock anyone. People see me being happy on Facebook so they like me to tease them to have fun together. Honestly, there was a time when I was so stressed out, I just stayed at home. Work doesn't always go smoothly. So, I still choose to have fun to relieve stress.

I do talk dirty, but only on social media because I am a different person offstage. I believe that if an artist talks dirty, he will be punished by his profession, so I am always aware that on stage and in real life, I have to be serious.

People often mention that I tease Tuan Hung. But Hung agreed to let me tease him. I think it's mutually beneficial for both of us to tease each other. Duy Manh's fans like to tease people for fun, Tuan Hung's fans like to get angry. So we talk back and forth on my page. It's fun.

He thinks he is cheerful and teasing people is fun without any hidden agenda.

- But being famous, everything needs to have standards?

. I was fined for swearing. My Facebook account with millions of followers was also blocked. I have to take responsibility for my actions. After that time, I also learned from my own experience.

- Some people like Duy Manh because he's cool, but some people are afraid of him because he looks "like a tiger"?

. Being an artist is basically a good person. There are only a few "sly" artists, but there are no artists who "fight" or "stab" anyone. There are many artists who do honest jobs, but there are also artists who do quite dishonest jobs. When doing charity work, they stop for a bit, or when performing, they feel they are at a disadvantage, they use tricks. For example, when they see someone sings better, they ask someone to turn down the volume of the previous singer, then when it's their turn, they turn it up.

The audience saw that the guy who sang before sang so badly and the guy who sang after sang so well. There are many tricks like that. Or when I go to sing, I force the show organizer to make my picture bigger and stand taller than the other guy's. It's like that all the time. It's a headache. One show organizer called me for help because he didn't know how to handle it. I said, "You don't need to put my picture up, as long as you pay me enough." That's who I am, no need to be flashy or fancy. Just live life as it is.

I hate the most the act of the strong bullying the weak. I was also a victim of bullying. Always relying on influential people to bully and oppress others. The thing I hate, I will never do, whether I have the conditions or not.

- Being famous, many people complain about being tired from working all the time, sometimes not even being able to reunite with their family on holidays. What about you?

. Those people are just kidding around. Who forced you to sing on holidays? You're making money so well, what are you complaining about?

- You and singer Tuan Hung just had a very meaningful live show, will you do more shows like that?

. It was truly a meaningful and emotional live show for me. Honestly, when giving a gift to someone, the receiver is 1 happy and the giver is 10 happy. Because I know I can bring joy to others. Not only with Tuan Hung, but I also want to have meaningful shows like that with many other people. No one would refuse the opportunity to help others.

I have known Hung for more than 10 years but the number of times we have met each other is less than 5 times. So, the level of intimacy is not really much. We have had a great combination because of the meaning of the program. And I combined with Hung because of the meaning of the program, but if combining to find revenue, to do business, I have not thought about it.

He also exposed many things in showbiz, raw but true.

- You once wrote the song "I can't pay the bill" which caused a stir. Aren't you afraid of offending your colleagues?

I am a songwriter and I will use music to express my feelings, perceptions, thoughts and opinions. I am probably the rare person who writes articles about gambling, blackmail, charity… and luckily it is accepted.

After all, the songwriter must grasp the thoughts of many people about social issues and address them in the most skillful but also most truthful way.
