According to the Vietnam SPS Office ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ), after more than 5 years of implementing the Vietnam - European Union Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), agricultural trade between Vietnam and the EU has achieved many positive results.
Currently, Vietnam is one of the countries with few products subject to border control. There are only 4 products on the inspection list: durian; okra, bell pepper; dragon fruit.
Notably, in the first nine months of this year, the number of warnings from the EU on Vietnam's agricultural exports decreased by about 50% compared to the same period last year, reflecting businesses' efforts to improve quality and compliance with regulations.
Mr. Ngo Xuan Nam, Deputy Director of the Vietnam SPS Office, said that the halving of the number of warnings from the EU is a positive sign, showing an improvement in the quality control of agricultural export enterprises. However, he also noted that the agricultural sector should not be subjective, because just one shipment violating food safety regulations can affect the reputation of the entire industry.
Particularly for the UK market, after 4 years of implementing the Vietnam - United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA), Vietnam's agricultural and food exports to the UK have maintained an average growth rate of about 10% per year. This is a positive signal showing great potential and clear effectiveness from the implementation of bilateral trade commitments.
