Vinh Long livestock industry faces many challenges in disease prevention and control.
The livestock and aquaculture sector in Vinh Long province contributes more than VND11 trillion to the local economy, but is currently facing many challenges in disease prevention and control. Mr. Le Van Dong, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said the Department is urgently reviewing vaccination and herd restoration work before Tet. However, many communes are still confused about disease prevention, with vaccination rates for diseases such as avian influenza and African swine fever not meeting requirements.
Mr. Dong warned that inadequate vaccination could lead to outbreaks of dangerous diseases, especially African swine fever, which currently has two variants in the province. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has requested support for gene sequencing to identify suitable vaccines. He also stressed the importance of using feed and pig breeds of clear origin to prevent disease.
The People's Committee of Vinh Long province has directed to support allowances for commune-level veterinary forces to strengthen monitoring activities. In a recent online meeting, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested that communes need to coordinate closely, speed up vaccination progress and apply biosafety, striving to achieve 8,000 hectares of safe livestock farming areas by 2028.
