Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee has just decided to lease land to Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) to implement the Tri An Hydropower Plant Expansion Project. This is the last hydropower step on the Dong Nai River, and is also the largest hydropower project in the South at present.
According to Decision 1522/QD-UBND, Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee leased 20.86 hectares of land to EVN to implement the Tri An Hydropower Plant Expansion Project, in Tri An Commune (former Hieu Liem Commune), Vinh Cuu District.

EVN informed that the Tri An Hydropower Plant Expansion Project has an investment capital of more than 3,900 billion VND, including 2 units with a total installed capacity of 200 MW, expected to be completed and generate electricity by the end of 2027.
The project will increase the capacity to mobilize load for the Southern region, especially during peak hours, contributing to improving the operating mode of the power system. Thereby, helping to reduce the production cost of the national power system; maximize the capacity of the flow by limiting the annual excess discharge; reduce CO2 emissions; reduce the working intensity at the generators of the existing plant, prolonging the life of the equipment.
Tri An Hydropower Plant was built with the support of the Soviet Union since 1984, generating electricity from Unit 1 on April 30, 1988 and inaugurated in 1991. Currently, the plant has 4 units with a total designed capacity of 400 MW, with an average annual electricity output of 1.7 billion kWh. Tri An Hydropower Reservoir has a capacity of 2.7 billion m3.
In addition to its main purpose of producing electricity and supplying the national grid, Tri An Hydropower Plant also performs the function of ensuring water for daily life, agriculture , repelling salinity and regulating floods.
Previously, in December 2024, EVN started construction of Hieu Liem Bridge, an important project serving the construction of the Tri An Hydropower Plant expansion. The bridge is 249.5m long and 9m wide, and is approved as a level II project.
In addition to the function of transporting materials and equipment during construction, after the project is completed, Hieu Liem Bridge will continue to serve the travel needs of local people, enhance traffic connections, and promote socio -economic development in the area.
