Vietnam and the US conclude the second round of tariff negotiations, preparing for the third round of negotiations

(Dan Tri) - Vietnam and the US have made positive progress, identifying groups of issues on which they have reached consensus or have similar views. The next negotiation session is scheduled for early June.

Information from the Ministry of Industry and Trade said that Vietnam and the US have just concluded the second round of negotiations on the bilateral agreement on reciprocal trade.

During the three days (May 19 to 22), the Vietnamese and US negotiating delegations discussed all the contents raised before the negotiation session in the spirit of goodwill, frankness, respect for institutions, harmony and balance of interests as well as in accordance with international commitments and the development level of each country.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade said that the two sides spent time exchanging information on each side's current policies, clarifying the contents of the draft text of the Agreement, and discussing a comprehensive approach to resolving fundamental issues of mutual concern to speed up the negotiation process.

At the same time, members of the two sides' negotiating delegations had open and constructive discussions on economic and trade issues of core interests to both countries.

At the end of the negotiation round, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said that Vietnam and the US had made positive progress, identified groups of issues that had reached consensus or had similar views, and groups of issues that needed further discussion to reach agreement in the coming time.

In addition, the two sides also set time frames for feedback on the draft Agreement, proposed text, and held online meetings to prepare for the next negotiation session.

At the end of the third working day, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien had a negotiation session with Ambassador, Chief US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to agree on the results of the second round of negotiations and point out the contents that need to continue to be focused on in early June.

Ambassador and Chief US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer appreciated Vietnam's goodwill and efforts in handling issues of US concern and hoped that the two sides would continue to promote technical exchanges, including at the ministerial level, to achieve results as soon as possible.

Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien welcomed the assessments of Ambassador and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and affirmed Vietnam's determination to build and promote economic and trade relations with the US in a balanced and sustainable manner for the benefit of the people and businesses of the two countries.

The Minister agreed with Ambassador, Chief US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, to assign technical levels of both sides to continue to strengthen exchanges to soon reach an agreement that meets the expectations and conditions of each side.

From May 19 to May 22 in Washington DC (USA), the Vietnamese negotiation delegation led by Minister of Industry and Trade, Head of the Government Negotiation Delegation Nguyen Hong Dien began the second negotiation sessions with the US side.

The negotiating delegation also included representatives of ministries and branches including: Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Justice and State Bank.
