Sacombank has a new general director, former CEO of VietBank

On May 22, the Board of Directors of Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank ( Sacombank ) approved the decision to dismiss Ms. Nguyen Duc Thach Diem from the position of General Director and appoint Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhung as Acting General Director.

The decision aims to ensure stable and continuous banking operations in the next phase. Ms. Diem continues to hold the role of Permanent Vice Chairwoman of Sacombank's Board of Directors.

According to Sacombank, the current separation of executive and administrative roles is intended to help Ms. Diem focus on long-term strategic orientation and other important tasks of the bank.

Ms. Diem's ​​successor is Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhung. Although he is a new face at Sacombank, he is not unfamiliar with the financial and banking industry.

According to the introduction, Mr. Nhung was born in 1968, has a bachelor's degree in economics , a bachelor's degree in law (Ho Chi Minh City University of Law), a master's degree in finance and banking (Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics) and is said to have more than 30 years of experience in the industry. Before joining Sacombank, he held many senior management positions such as Deputy General Director of Eximbank and General Director of VietBank.

Mr. Nhung joined VietBank in 2014 and held the role of General Director during the period when the bank expanded its network of operations.

Previously, on May 20, Ms. Nguyen Duc Thach Diem sent a letter to the Board of Directors, management staff and all employees, officially saying goodbye after nearly 8 years with the bank.

In the letter, Ms. Diem called this "a farewell" to close a nearly decade-long journey full of challenges but also many impressions at the bank. "I have lived, dared to do, and devoted myself to the journey of restructuring, recovery and strong growth of Sacombank," she shared.

Ms. Nguyen Duc Thach Diem, born in 1973, is introduced as a PhD in Finance - Banking, with more than 18 years of experience in the field of economics - finance - banking. Joining Sacombank since 2002, she has held many positions in functional departments, branches and regions, was appointed Deputy General Director in 2014 and Acting General Director in July 2017.

Despite holding a high executive position for many years, Ms. Diem only owns a modest amount of STB shares. According to the 2024 management report, she currently holds 76,320 shares, equivalent to more than 3 billion VND at the current market price. This is considered a low level of personal ownership compared to many other bank leaders in the same industry.
