Ha Giang: Building the brand of clean Ban Luoc watermelon

Located at an altitude of nearly 1,000m above sea level, Ban Luoc commune, Hoang Su Phi district (Ha Giang province) is famous for its majestic terraced fields and the long-standing farming tradition of the Dao and Nung ethnic groups. Previously, people often grew small-scale crops and sold fresh produce in the fields without binding contracts. Now, many households have joined the cooperative model, signed a commitment to produce according to VietGAP standards and were granted a growing area code. Cooperatives play a central role in the chain, purchasing seeds, organizing training, collecting products, processing and connecting consumption.

In addition to local consumption, Ban Luoc commune authorities proactively connect with traders from Hanoi and Tuyen Quang to expand the market and create stable output.

Currently, many households have switched to group production and cooperative models, applying VietGAP processes from seed selection to harvesting. Specialized production and clear traceability help improve product quality and open up opportunities to access higher-end markets.

The Ban Luoc commune government is actively coordinating with the district's specialized departments and offices to provide technical support, provide new varieties and guide care according to the correct process. At the same time, promoting the signing of product consumption contracts, helping people feel secure in production.

With the participation of the government and the proactive spirit of change of the people, this year's melon crop in Ban Luoc not only promises to achieve high economic efficiency but also marks an important step forward in the journey of building a closed agricultural value chain, from production to consumption.
