Fans hunt for Blackpink show tickets

Many people did not eat or rest all afternoon on July 7, hunting for tickets to see the Blackpink concert - taking place for the first time in Vietnam.

At 12 noon, the concert organizers opened online ticket sales for the group's first performance in Hanoi on July 29. However, the website kept crashing, taking several minutes to access. After an hour, tickets priced at VND1.2 million, VND1.8 million, and VND3.8 million were "sold out".

Audience member Thanh Xuan (35 years old, Ho Chi Minh City) said he planned to buy a ticket for 1.2 million, which would suit his budget and needs to watch the show. After about an hour of waiting, he was able to access the system but the tickets priced from 1.2 to 3.8 million VND were marked "Sold Out".

According to observations of many ticket buyers, each successfully logged-in account only has about five minutes to make a transaction. After this time, if a ticket purchase is not made, the system will automatically log out and the user will have to wait for a new queue number.

At an office in Hanoi, groups of employees are online hunting for tickets. Audience member Anh Tu (25 years old, Hanoi) used two computers to log in for more chances. "My group of three people bought eight tickets for the CAT 3 area, priced at VND3.8 million. One of my accounts was initially in the queue of more than 100, then it was pushed up to 90," Anh Tu said.

This audience member said he had no experience hunting for tickets to many shows, he was just lucky to get on the website quickly. Anh Tu is a Blackpink fan, loves Jisoo, bought tickets for himself and for his friends, and did not resell.

MC Phi Thi Thuy Linh said she was ranked over 6,000 thanks to a stable internet connection. She bought two VIP tickets for 9.8 million VND - the highest ticket price.

Singer Duc Phuc was number 50,305, using four devices at the same time to hunt for four VIP tickets. At first, the singer was afraid that he wouldn't be able to buy a ticket, but after about 40 minutes, the singer successfully made a transaction for more than 39 million VND. The singer of "Hon ca yeu" is a big fan of the famous Korean music group. The singer has arranged to attend most of the group's concerts in Thailand since 2019.

Miss Ky Duyen and model Minh Trieu said that this was their first time joining the "ticket hunting fever" with hundreds of thousands of Blackpink fans in the country. After nearly an hour of waiting, they successfully bought four VIP tickets.

While many audiences boasted about buying tickets, tens of thousands of people still "lined up" waiting for their chance .

Nguyen Huong (39 years old, Hanoi) kept refreshing the website but only managed to get to 45,000th in the online waiting room, while her two daughters at home kept urging her and calling to ask about the situation. The audience said they missed the first time so they had to wait until the second sale at 2pm the same day, for the show on July 30. However, she still couldn't buy tickets because the website kept having errors at the payment step.

According to many people, the ticket purchase process was faster in the afternoon sale. Audience member Quang Hoang (25 years old, Ho Chi Minh City) said that when he clicked "Buy tickets now", the system took him straight to the ticket categories, instead of showing the order number and waiting in line. However, the 1.2 to 1.8 million VND levels quickly ran out after five minutes. "After 30 minutes of continuously pressing the keyboard, I still couldn't buy a ticket," the audience member said.

The organizers opened ticket sales one day after apologizing for the incident on the company's website that featured an image of a map containing the illegal "nine-dash line." Mr. Brian Chow, CEO of IME Music Company Limited, said that being aware of respecting the sovereignty and culture of all countries, they quickly reviewed and committed to replacing images that were inappropriate for the Vietnamese people.

As soon as the news of Blackpink 's concert in Vietnam was announced , the ticket hunting fever increased. Although the organizers have not announced the schedule or price, fans said they were "restless", asking sources to ensure they have a place to watch the show. Many accounts accepting ticket purchases with a commitment to success, advertised invitations for prices ranging from 5 to 15 million VND depending on the location, some places advertised up to 25 million VND for a VIP ticket.

The organizers announced eight ticket categories, the highest VIP level is nearly 10 million VND, the lowest is 1.2 million VND. Many viewers complained that it was expensive but said they still chose to buy the highest level to have a position close to their idols.

The two concerts are part of the Born Pink tour, which started late last year, and have so far grossed about $163.8 million, with more than 900,000 tickets sold. On average, the group earns more than $4 million per concert with about 22,600 spectators. The figures do not include the 24 concerts that have not been counted. The achievement helps Blackpink become the girl group with the highest-grossing tour, surpassing the records of Spice Girls ($78.2 million), TCL ($72.8 million), and Destiny's Child ($70.8 million).

The two most recent concerts of the Born Pink tour took place on June 16 and 17 in Sydney, Australia, with no attendance figures yet available. The two shows in Osaka, Japan, on June 3 and 4 attracted 100,000 spectators each night. The organizers sold tickets online.
