Jose Mourinho has officially been fired from his position as head coach of Fenerbahce.
After the home team's defeat in the Champions League play-off round against Benfica, the club's board of directors did not hesitate and decided to immediately terminate the contract with the Portuguese strategist.

“We have dismissed Jose Mourinho, who has been in charge since the 2024-25 season. The club thanks him for his efforts and wishes him success in his future career,” the Istanbul club said in a brief statement.
Fenerbahce once again missed out on the Champions League group stage after losing to Benfica, a match in which they did not even have a shot on target, meaning they were relegated to the Europa League.
The elimination from the Champions League was a heavy defeat for Fenerbahce , a team that invested heavily financially.
Mourinho's relationship with Fenerbahce has deteriorated recently. Just before the match against Benfica, he criticised the club's transfer policy.
“I don’t see any effort to sign players. If the Champions League was really the number one target for the club, I think something would have happened in the transfer window ,” Mourinho said.
During the final stages of last season, Mourinho was often involved in off-field controversies, especially conflicts with Galatasaray.
This caused many members of the Fenerbahce Board of Directors to turn their backs on the "Special One".
President Ali Koc's decision is considered by Turkish media as an important step towards the new term election, taking place on September 23.
The breakup caused Fenerbahce a lot of losses, but Mourinho's account fluctuated further thanks to the dismissals: 20 million euros.
