Jose Mourinho officially received the decision to be fired from the position of head coach of Fenerbahce.

After the home team's defeat in the Champions League play-off round against Benfica, the club's board of directors did not hesitate and decided to immediately terminate the contract with the Portuguese strategist.

“We have dismissed Jose Mourinho, who has been in charge since the 2024-25 season. The club thanks him for his efforts and wishes him success in his future career,” the Istanbul club said in a brief statement.

Fenerbahce once again missed out on Champions League group stage after losing to Benfica, a game in which they did not even have a shot on target, meaning they were relegated to the Europa League.

The elimination from the Champions League was a heavy defeat for Fenerbahce , a team that invested heavily financially.

Mourinho's relationship with Fenerbahce has deteriorated recently. Just before the match with Benfica, he criticized the club's transfer policy.

“I don’t see any effort to sign players. If the Champions League was really the club’s number one objective, I think something would have happened in the transfer window ,” Mourinho said.
