The project marks a new step forward in the strategy of building a “Smart University City”, contributing to realizing the development orientation of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) to become an innovation center, a model of smart, green and sustainable university in Vietnam.

Permanent Deputy Director of VNU Nguyen Hieu said that the university's smart urban technology infrastructure project in Hoa Lac is one of four key projects assigned by the Government to supplement medium-term public investment for the period 2021-2025 with a total investment of 150 billion VND. This is a specific step to realize the goal of building the VNU urban area in Hoa Lac into a green - smart - sustainable urban area, developed according to the "5-in-1 urban" model including: Center for talent training; Center for modern technology transfer research; Center for national and international innovation; smart, modern university urban area; Center for public-private partnership testing and research training.

According to Mr. Hieu, the project includes 5 key groups of items: Building a Smart Operations Center; developing a network system, connection and centralized database; managing traffic, parking lots and smart charging stations; monitoring security and environment; and managing electricity, water and waste. When completed, the project will create a synchronous technology platform for university administration, research, training, as well as improving the lives of staff, lecturers and students of VNU.

This is also where technology businesses can test and commercialize products, forming an effective cooperation model between the State - School - Enterprise.

According to Mr. Hieu, the goal by 2026-2027 is that the urban area will have a scale of 30,000 staff, lecturers, and students working and studying in Hoa Lac; aiming for 60,000 people by 2030.

The project will be implemented in the 2023-2025 period using medium-term public investment capital, on an area of ​​more than 160 hectares in the Hanoi National University Urban Area in Hoa Lac.

The project consists of 3 main components: Modern ICT infrastructure - including Smart Operation Center, high-speed network infrastructure, centralized data storage, security system and IoT-AI-Big Data integration platform; Smart security and monitoring - AI camera system, access control, public wifi, electronic boards and smart speakers serving the community; Smart traffic, energy and environment - lighting, signal lights, electric vehicles, solar parking lots and automatic monitoring devices.

The project promises to contribute to creating a new look for VNU in Hoa Lac – a smart, green and creative university city. The modern technology infrastructure system helps VNU optimize operations, exploit and use resources effectively, while enhancing security, safety and taking care of the health of the learning community. Learning, research and living services are comprehensively upgraded, providing a comfortable academic and living experience, connecting and inspiring innovation for staff, lecturers and students.
