According to the October 29 report of the Department of Hydrometeorology ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ), the rainfall in 24 hours at Bach Ma peak, Hue city reached 1,739 mm, setting a record of the highest in Vietnam's history, nearly equal to the average annual rainfall in the entire territory of Vietnam (1,400-2,400 mm) and the second largest in the world, only after the rainfall of 1,825 mm at a French monitoring station in the Indian Ocean in January 1966.

Heavy rain has caused 32/40 communes and wards in Hue City to be flooded since October 26, with the flood level commonly reaching 1-2m, and in some places reaching 3-4m.

Sharing with VietNamNet reporter, singer Long Nhat said he was with his father on the 2nd floor of the villa on Nguyen Chi Thanh street, Hue city.

"I was sitting next to my father in the dark because the electricity in my neighborhood was out. We've been through big floods before, I thought 2020 and 2023 were big, but this year is even bigger! And these days remind me of the flood in 1999," he shared.

Long Nhat said that on the morning of October 29, the rain stopped and the water receded slowly, everyone was excited. In the afternoon, the rain poured down again, the water rose and flooded his entire house. Looking down from upstairs, "you could only see water, you could no longer see the dining table on the ground floor."

"The water rose so quickly that it almost submerged my mother's altar. Luckily, we were quick to move my father, my mother's altar, and some important belongings upstairs. The whole family had experience and prepared food, so we could hold out until the water receded," the singer said.

Long Nhat said that not only his family but also the people of Hue are used to the flood. Many families prepare plastic bags containing 1-2 sets of clothes and food, and when the water rises, they climb up to the roof. Everyone encourages each other and believes in the relief activities of the city government.

He shared: "This situation is miserable for the people of Hue in particular and the Central region in general. This year, Hue has been hit so hard! Behind me is a working-class neighborhood, mostly small traders, workers, and craftsmen... submerged in a vast sea of water, very pitiful and heartbreaking."

"What I hope most right now is that it doesn't rain anymore, otherwise it will be very dangerous if there is more flooding. People have been taken to safe shelters. When the city drains all the water, we will work together to overcome the consequences and help our local people," the singer added.
