Fernandes criticizes Man Utd players for being lazy, coach Amorim completely agrees

(Dan Tri) - After the match with Everton in the early morning of August 4, Bruno Fernandes criticized many Man Utd players for being "lazy". The statement of the Man Utd captain was fully supported by coach Ruben Amorim.

Man Utd took the lead twice but could only manage a 2-2 draw against Everton in the final round of the US quadruple-elimination tournament. Although the draw was enough to secure Man Utd the title, Fernandes had reason to be unhappy with some of his teammates. The Portuguese midfielder even openly criticized some of them for being "lazy".

Manager Ruben Amorim has backed captain Fernandes, saying he was pleased that his players had spoken out about their poor form, seeing it as a positive sign in efforts to improve the culture at Old Trafford.

Speaking after the match, coach Amorim said: "I'm happy that the players have that feeling. It shows that they understand the situation. So it's a good feeling. I think the momentum of the tour was perfect. We had many weeks to work in a good environment, feeling good, then we come back to Carrington and are about to start the season. We go with the feeling that we need to do more good things."

As well as assessing his performance against Everton, Fernandes also told NBC that he hoped the club "could get one or two more players" before the transfer window closes. United have spent £133m on Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who made his debut against Everton, and are still interested in RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

Asked about Fernandes' comments regarding player additions, coach Amorim said: "A team can always improve with more players, but we have players who are competitive. We need to improve as a team. We have the potential to improve with our players, and I am really happy with this club."

Negotiations over a deal for Sesko are ongoing, with RB Leipzig also in discussions with Newcastle United, who have made a formal offer for the striker.

Ahead of the game against Everton, Man Utd chief executive Omar Berrada also revealed that the recruitment team is working "around the clock" to add players to the squad.

"We have to multitask a lot. We have a team back home led by Jason Wilcox, our head of recruitment, who are working around the clock to make sure we continue to look for opportunities to strengthen the squad. There are a lot of late calls and early morning meetings to make sure we're keeping a close eye on things," Berrada told MUTV.
