Fernandes had an impressive performance in March. |
On the afternoon of April 4, Bruno Fernandes was named the Premier League Player of the Month for March. The Portuguese midfielder contributed to all four goals of his team, helping the team maintain an unbeaten record in March.
Fernandes started the month with a beautiful free-kick goal, helping the “Red Devils” hold Arsenal to a 1-1 draw. Then, Fernandes scored another goal and assisted twice in a 3-0 win over Leicester City.
This is the fifth time and the first time in five years that Fernandes has received the Premier League Player of the Month award. He previously won the award four times in 2020, in February, June, November and December.
This achievement helps Fernandes equal Rooney's record at Manchester United. During his time at the "Red Devils", Rooney led the club in the number of Player of the Month awards with 5 times. Robin van Persie also received this award 5 times, but many of them were won while playing for Arsenal.
Fernandes has also spent just over five years in the Premier League to achieve this feat, while Rooney and Van Persie have played longer. Bruno is now only behind Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero and Mohamed Salah – each with seven Player of the Month awards.
Jota's only goal helped Liverpool solidify their top spot. In the 57th minute, Diogo Jota scored the only goal to help Liverpool win the Merseyside derby against Everton.
