FIFA could pay Arsenal

Arsenal are facing the possibility of receiving a large compensation from FIFA after midfielder Gabriel Magalhaes was injured in a friendly match between Brazil and Senegal.

Gabriel started Brazil's 2-0 win over Senegal at the Emirates Stadium thanks to goals from Estevao and Casemiro. But the joy was short-lived when the 27-year-old centre-back was forced off in the 64th minute after falling to the ground, holding his face in his thigh and signaling to be substituted.

This is a huge blow for Arsenal as Gabriel has been a key player this season. He has played every minute of the Premier League in 17 appearances, helping the team to a league-leading 13 clean sheets, conceding just five goals.

With the North London derby against Tottenham looming, Gabriel's injury makes Arsenal's defense even more vulnerable. Not to mention the tense series of matches ahead: Bayern Munich in the Champions League, then Chelsea, Brentford and Aston Villa in the Premier League.

However, if Gabriel is out for a long time, Arsenal will not be left empty-handed. Under the "club protection program" that came into effect in 2012, FIFA will compensate clubs when players are injured while on national duty.

The condition is that the player must rest for at least 28 consecutive days, and the maximum compensation can be up to 6.6 million pounds, equivalent to a payment of 18,000 pounds per day, equivalent to FIFA covering the player's salary during the treatment period.

Newcastle are also currently enjoying this regime for £55m signing Yoane Wissa, who suffered a knee injury while playing for DR Congo since September and missed 16 consecutive matches.
