This year's tournament has 98 jockeys from Bac Ha, Bat Xat, Si Ma Cai districts ( Lao Cai province), Ham Yen district (Tuyen Quang province) and Son La province. Besides the familiar faces from previous seasons, there are many new faces, including the first time Son La province has jockeys participating in the race.

The jockeys will compete for individual and team prizes. The qualifying distance is 1,900m. At the end of the qualifying round, the 32 jockeys with the shortest racing time and no violations during the competition will be selected for the semi-finals and finals.

At the qualifying round of the 18th Bac Ha District Traditional Horse Racing Tournament, after 20 races, the 32 jockeys with the highest achievements were named to the semi-finals.
Of which, the communes and towns of Bac Ha district have 12 horse jockeys; the rest are Bat Xat district with 7; Simacai district with 4; Ham Yen district (Tuyen Quang) with 6; Son La province with 3.
