Attending the event were city leaders, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Huynh Ngoc Tam. Many locals and tourists came to watch and cheer for this unique sports competition.
This year's competition has the participation of nearly 400 athletes ( 144 women) from 25 wards , communes and schools in Phan Thiet city , Bac Binh district, Ham Thuan Nam . Athletes compete in the 2,500 meter categories for women and 4,000 meter categories for men, in which each category has only 800 meters of road, the rest of the race is the undulating sand dunes and golden under the spring sunshine of the famous tourist destination Mui Ne sand dunes.
In the women's category, athlete Nguyen Thi Thanh Tuyen (Xuan An) with a time of 9 minutes 23.83 ranked first, second and third prizes went to two athletes from Thien Nghiep commune, Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc and Nguyen Thi My Lien. Accordingly, the first prize for the women's team went to Thien Nghiep commune, the second prize went to Ham Thuan Nam district, and the third prize went to Xuan An ward. In the men's category, athlete Do Duy Thang (Thien Nghiep commune) with a time of 12 minutes 15.14, second prize went to Bui Minh Tuong (Phan Chu Trinh High School), and third prize went to Phan Thanh Son (Phu Hai ward). The first prize for the men's team went to Thien Nghiep commune, the second prize went to Bac Binh district, and the third prize went to Phu Hai ward. In addition to the first, second and third positions, the Organizing Committee also awarded consolation prizes (from 4th to 10th positions) for men and women, men's team prizes, women's team prizes and team prizes for outstanding individuals and groups.
The first prize for the whole team belongs to Thien Nghiep commune (Phan Thiet city), the second prize belongs to Ham Thuan Nam district and the third prize belongs to Xuan An ward (Phan Thiet city).
The Mui Ne Sand Dune Running Competition is a very unique traditional sport activity of Phan Thiet city, held annually on the occasion of the New Year, with the meaning of both maintaining the local sports and physical training movement, and creating more typical tourism products of the Mui Ne destination, serving tourists to enjoy Spring and celebrate the traditional New Year of the nation. The Sand Dune Running Competition is held on the 4th day of Tet every year , aiming to create a healthy sports playground, enjoy Spring and welcome Tet, and is an opportunity for young people to fulfill their desire to conquer and overcome their own limits with strong barefoot steps on the sand dunes.
