The 2025 high school graduation exam nationwide has 1,165,289 candidates registered for the exam. Of these, more than 1.12 million candidates are grade 12 students of the 2018 generaleducation program. There are 42,782 independent candidates.

Considering both independent candidates and candidates who are grade 12 students, in addition to literature and math, social science subjects have an overwhelming number of registrations compared to the remaining subjects.

Of which, history and geography subjects have nearly 50% of candidates choosing to take the exam. Natural science subjects have fewer candidates. Notably, biology has only more than 72,000 candidates taking the exam. Thus, the source of candidates for the math-chemistry-biology combination of universities will not be much.

For 12th graders, the 2025 high school graduation exam has two compulsory subjects: math and literature. Candidates can choose the remaining two subjects to take. The results of candidates' registration show that social sciences are still chosen significantly more than natural sciences.

It is noteworthy that the new subjects in the graduation exam for the first time have a very large difference.

For example, the subject of economics and law has more than 257,000 candidates registered while the subject of information technology has only more than 7,000. The subject of agricultural technology has an overwhelming number of candidates choosing to take the exam than the subject of industrial technology.
