The Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union , the Vietnam Writers Association, the Vietnam Post Corporation and the Tien Phong and Children Newspaper organized the contest in Hanoi. This is the 37th time the Universal Postal Union (UPU) has organized the contest in Vietnam.
The contest will be launched nationwide from November 11, 2024 to March 5, 2025. In line with the goal of "Conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources" in the United Nations' 17 sustainable development goals, in 2025, the contest has the theme: "Imagine you are the ocean. Write a letter to someone explaining why and how they should take good care of you."
The contest attracted 1.5 million entries, demonstrating the young generation's interest in global issues. After 5 rounds of judging, the National Jury selected 142 entries for the final round and decided to award 1 first prize, 3 second prizes, 5 third prizes, 30 consolation prizes, 61 "Promising Writer" prizes and 10 "Source of Ideas" prizes. The first and second prize winners were awarded the Creative Youth Badge by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union. Pham Doan Minh Khue, a 10C2 student at Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted (Son Tra District, Da Nang City) won the first prize. This is the 9th time that Da Nang students have won the first prize in the national contest after 37 seasons of the contest held in Vietnam.
Speaking at the award ceremony on May 16, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Pham Duc Long assessed that the 1.5 million entries received by the Organizing Committee showed the positive response of students from all over the country, demonstrating the influence of the contest and the growing interest of the young generation in global issues, including the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources as the contest's objectives.
