Established in 2016, the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Europe has become the largest organization gathering the Vietnamese community in Europe, with many activities towards the homeland and country as well as contributing to promoting Vietnam's relations with European countries.
According to Mr. Hoang Dinh Thang - Member of the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, President of the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Europe, in recent years, closely following the guidance and direction of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and representative agencies of Vietnam in European countries, the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Europe has chaired and coordinated the successful organization of many community activities on a European scale. Notably, the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Europe has supported domestic media agencies to go to Europe to search for documents about President Ho Chi Minh, make films and reports about the Vietnamese community in Europe; supported photo exhibitions and seminars with the theme "Vietnam's seas and islands" in the Czech Republic, Poland, France... contributing to the effort to promote propaganda about Vietnam's sea and island sovereignty .
Along with that, the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Europe focuses on doing well foreign affairs, having regular contact with a number of Parliamentarians in the European Parliament. The Executive Board of the Union has visited the European Parliament in Brussels (Belgium) and Strasbourg (France) many times; met and mobilized Parliamentarians to support and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to successfully and sustainably integrate into European countries, preserve the cultural identity of the Vietnamese nation and pay attention to and resolve the difficulties and problems of the Vietnamese community in Europe.
In addition, the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Europe also mobilizes people living and working in Europe to contribute to the development of the homeland through contributions from technical and technological experts, trade activities, investment projects; especially charitable activities launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
In order to promote the role of the overseas Vietnamese community (VJC) in general and the Vietnamese community in Europe in particular to actively participate in socio-economic development, building and protecting the Fatherland in the new situation, Mr. Hoang Dinh Thang said that through high-level contacts and diplomatic channels, it is necessary to promote some countries to recognize the VJC community in some areas that meet the conditions as ethnic minorities. In addition, it is necessary to strengthen diplomatic relations with countries and local authorities where many Vietnamese people live so that local authorities can create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to integrate, develop and improve its position in the host country as well as on the continent.
In particular, in the field of cultural information, it is necessary to continue to pay attention to and support the preservation of Vietnamese culture and the Vietnamese language by increasing the organization of Vietnamese language classes (online and in person), sending more Vietnamese language teachers, supporting textbooks, documents, and teaching aids for NVNONN children in the host country, strengthening the program of linking and exchanging Vietnamese students with other countries; organizing more cultural and artistic events abroad to promote the image of the country and Vietnamese people to the host country and serve the community. At the same time, it is necessary to increase the provision of domestic information abroad with new transmission methods and access models, suitable for the community, especially the young generation of the 2nd and 3rd generation of NVNONN.
“It is necessary to continue organizing activities to connect the network of Vietnamese intellectuals abroad with domestic agencies and localities, create large-scale forums for overseas Vietnamese experts and intellectuals to express their initiatives, proposals and recommendations to the State, create conditions for our overseas Vietnamese to return to the country to work and contribute, and have policies to promote the potential of overseas Vietnamese intellectuals . At the same time, promptly reward and honor individuals and associations of overseas Vietnamese who have made many contributions to the community and the country,” said Mr. Thang.
