Regarding the controversy over "green coffee achieving specialty coffee", the organizer of the Vietnam Specialty Coffee Contest - Amazing Cup, the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association, has officially spoken out after a week of stirring up the online community.
Accordingly, with this coffee sample (sample R042), the contestant clearly declared that the raw material is green coffee, processed according to the natural microbial fermentation process.

The owner of the sample has completely eliminated the errors to ensure that it meets the technical requirements before submitting the sample to the competition and being inspected by the technical department according to the correct procedure. After this round, the sample is evaluated through the next rounds like all other samples and is recognized as meeting the standards of specialty coffee according to regulations.
However, through practice and contributions from the community, the organizing committee will continue to improve the competition regulations in a more rigorous, objective and transparent manner.
First, the organizers will add specific regulations on the ratio of ripe fruit in the input materials. The goal is to ensure quality right from the harvesting stage, which is considered a key factor of specialty coffee.
The Organizing Committee declares that it will not accept products processed using unproven or unaccredited testing methods in the practice of specialty coffee production. This is to ensure consistency, objectivity and professionalism throughout the entire judging process, avoiding creating negative public opinion that affects the reputation of the competition and the sustainable development of the Vietnamese specialty coffee industry.
This also means that the batch of specialty coffee processed from green-hulled coffee will not have its certification revoked due to "correct procedures" but will not be repeated in the future as the competition regulations will block it from the beginning.
Domestic coffee prices were negatively affected by the floor price at the beginning of the week, so they are temporarily at 126,000 VND/kg, down 1,800 VND/kg, but are expected to increase again today.
