Global coffee prices fell today as a weakening Brazilian Real led to futures liquidation, after hitting a 1.5-week high in the previous session.
The Brazilian real fell to a 1.5-week low against the dollar on November 4, giving the country’s coffee producers an incentive to boost exports. Meanwhile, the prospects for trade talks between Brazil and the United States remain unclear, despite President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s insistence that he is open to dialogue.
International coffee prices fell only slightly on concerns that dry weather in many key growing regions could impact global production. Minas Gerais state, Brazil’s largest arabica growing region, received just 33.4 mm of rain in the week ending October 31, or 75% of the historical average, after almost no rain the previous week, Somar Meteorologia reported.
