Agricultural product prices today, October 30, 2024: Mandarin oranges drop to only 2,000 VND/kg.
Recently, orange farmers in the Mekong Delta, especially in Vinh Long and Tra Vinh provinces , have been facing a sharp drop in orange prices, causing serious losses.
Orange farmers in Tra On ( Vinh Long province ) say that for each hectare of land planted with oranges, they invest about 120 million VND. At their best, they harvest 10 tons of oranges, selling them for around 20,000 VND/kg. However, in recent years, orange prices have continuously fallen and are currently at their lowest point, only 1,000-2,000 VND/kg, causing them to suffer continuous losses.

They invested about 120 million VND per hectare in orange cultivation, and with good care, they could harvest 10 tons of oranges. At a price of 1,000-2,000 VND/kg, they essentially lost 100 million VND.
This year, right from the beginning of the season, the price of oranges dropped to around 3,000 – 5,000 VND/kg. Currently, grade 1 oranges are only 2,000 VND/kg, and even then, traders are buying them in small quantities.”
According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tra On district, the current price of oranges ranges from 3,000 to 5,000 VND/kg for households cultivating less than 10 acres of land. Some orange orchards belonging to businesses are not properly cared for, resulting in poor quality fruit and prices dropping to only 1,000-2,000 VND/kg.
Pomelos are sold at prices ranging from 30,000 to 45,000 VND per kilogram.
Farmers in Phi Le village, Quy Son commune (Luc Ngan district) said that this year their families have more than 10,000 pomelos, equivalent to last year, including varieties such as: red pomelos fit for royalty, sugar pomelos with cinnamon, green-skinned pomelos, etc. In addition, there are more than 3 tons of golden-fleshed oranges that are about to be harvested.
Currently, their family has sold 1,600 pomelos shaped like the characters "fortune," "prosperity," and "longevity" at the orchard price of 140,000-180,000 VND per fruit, higher than last year. As in previous years, most of the remaining pomelos have already been ordered by customers for consumption during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake 2025.

Bac Giang currently has over 5,200 hectares of pomelo orchards. According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, this year's pomelo production is estimated at 34,700 tons, mainly concentrated in Luc Ngan, Luc Nam, and Yen The districts. To date, the province has harvested over 2,000 tons with selling prices ranging from 30,000 to 45,000 VND/kg, higher than the same period last year by 15,000 to 20,000 VND/kg. The harvesting period runs from October to the end of December.
Besides pomelos, oranges have also started to be harvested. To date, localities have sold about 130 tons of golden-fleshed oranges, priced from 20,000 to 25,000 VND/kg, which is about 5,000 to 10,000 VND/kg higher than the same period last year.
Durian prices have dropped by almost half compared to last year.
Each kilogram of premium quality custard apples is sold at the farm for 55,000-75,000 VND depending on the variety, nearly half the price compared to last year.
Originally a rare and expensive delicacy, the price of durian-shaped custard apples has plummeted in the last two years. They are called "durian custard apples" because of their spiky exterior, resemblance to durian, their large size, and their characteristic aroma and sweet taste. Four years ago, this type of custard apple appeared on the market at prices ranging from 400,000 to 500,000 VND per kilogram, but now it's below 100,000 VND.
In orchards in Son La, the selling price of grade 1 custard apples (800 grams - 2.5 kg) is 75,000-80,000 VND per kg, while grade 2 (500-800 grams) is 55,000 VND. This is nearly half the price compared to last year.
In Ho Chi Minh City, this fruit is sold at a higher price by fruit vendors than in the northern provinces due to the high cost of air transport. Currently, each kilogram of grade 1 fruit costs around 200,000-250,000 VND, while grade 2 costs 140,000-170,000 VND. However, this price is down about 40% compared to before.
Durian prices today, October 30, 2024, increased slightly, with Thai durian prices remaining very high.
Today, October 30th, durian prices are increasing daily. Thai A durian is priced at 160,000 VND/kg, and Ri6 A durian is priced at 150,000 VND/kg, an increase of 5,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday.
Specifically: In the Mekong Delta region, Ri6 A durian is priced at 140,000 – 150,000 VND/kg and Ri6 B durian at 125,000 – 130,000 VND/kg; Ri6 C durian at 60,000 – 65,000 VND/kg; Thai A durian at 150,000 – 160,000 VND/kg; Thai B durian at 130,000 - 140,000 VND/kg; Thai C durian at 60,000 - 65,000 VND/kg; and substandard durian at 30 – 40 VND/kg.
In the Southeast region, Ri6 A durian is priced at 130,000 – 140,000 VND/kg and Ri6 B durian at 120,000 – 125,000 VND/kg; Ri6 C durian is priced at 58,000 – 62,000 VND/kg; Thai A durian is priced at 140,000 – 152,000 VND/kg; Thai B durian is priced at 115,000- 125,000 VND/kg; and Thai C durian is priced at 55,000- 60,000 VND/kg.
Meanwhile, in the Central Highlands region, Ri6 A durian is priced at 130,000–145,000 VND/kg and Ri6 B durian at 115,000–125,000 VND/kg; Ri6 C durian is 55,000–60,000 VND/kg; Thai A durian (premium quality) is 135,000–157,000 VND/kg; Thai B durian is 115,000–132,000 VND/kg; and Thai C durian is 60,000–65,000 VND/kg.
The price of fresh betel nuts in Nghe An has dropped to 25,000 – 30,000 VND/kg.
About a month ago, the price of betel nuts in Nghe An province reached a record high of 90,000 VND/kg. Many traders from all over flocked to major betel nut growing areas in Nghe An such as Anh Son, Thanh Chuong, and Do Luong districts to buy betel nuts.

However, recently, traders buying betel nuts have disappeared. Along with that, the price of betel nuts has plummeted to only 25,000 to 30,000 VND per kilogram.
With over 100kg of betel nuts, they could have earned nearly 10 million VND when prices were at their peak, but now it's only about 3 million VND. In just over half a month, the family lost a whopping 7 million VND due to the low betel nut prices.
Farmers in Do Luong district, Nghe An province, shared: "For the previous crop of betel nuts, traders came directly to the orchards to buy them, at a price of 80,000 VND/kg. In Thanh Chuong – the locality with the largest number of betel nuts harvested in the province – the current price for good quality, grade 1 betel nuts is 50,000 VND/kg, while grade 2 and 3 betel nuts range from 25-30,000 VND/kg."
