Today's global pepper prices remained mostly stable, with only a slight decrease in Indonesia. Indonesian media reported that the Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN/Bappenas) officially announced the 2025/45 Spice Industry Deep Processing Development Roadmap, marking a strategic step towards elevating this traditionally valuable industry.
At the announcement ceremony in Jakarta on December 10th, Minister and Head of Bappenas Rachmat Pambudy emphasized that the new roadmap is an important part of Indonesia's trade strategy, aiming to restore the "golden age" of the spice industry. He reiterated that Indonesia was a spice production center hundreds of years ago, contributing to shaping global trade and cultural routes, but had not fully exploited its potential to create an economic breakthrough.

According to Mr. Pambudy, national branding initiatives, including the S'RASA program, are helping Indonesia strengthen its position in the international market by boosting exports and promoting the Nusantara culinary heritage. In 2023, the country exported 148,200 tons of spices, worth over $564 million, with key items such as cloves, pepper, vanilla, and cinnamon. Some products recorded impressive growth, such as cloves (up 61%) and the ginger-turmeric group (up 139%), reflecting strong demand from the global food and cosmetics industries.
The 2025/45 roadmap aims to make Indonesia a world-leading producer of nutmeg, pepper, cloves, cinnamon, vanilla, black turmeric, and processed products. To achieve this vision, Bappenas has set out five key tasks: enhancing production while improving farmers' livelihoods, expanding domestic and international consumption, perfecting the ecosystem supporting the industry, and establishing black turmeric as a branded Indonesian herbal beverage symbol.
