According to Android Authority , before the new ban was introduced, the US restrictions only affected the Nvidia H100. To get around the restrictions, Nvidia offered lower-powered H800 GPUs to take advantage of legal loopholes. So the US government fixed the problem with new laws with more restrictions.
The Nvidia RTX 4090 is one of the most powerful consumer GPUs available today.
The restrictions on GPU distribution in China have not yet taken effect, as the US government has only just announced the measure and will be implemented in the coming weeks, so for now, Nvidia can still distribute this GPU in China.
The new standard is specified in the ECCN 3A090 document, which limits memory bandwidth to a maximum of 600 GB/s and the computing power of the combined processor is limited to 4,800 TOPS. These limitations directly affect the RTX 4090. It is a GPU that was officially launched in October 2022 with a price of more than 1,650 EUR. Currently, their prices have reached around 3,350 EUR. Notably, this shopping is only available on stores like AliExpress, as this GPU is no longer available in official stores in China.
Nvidia stressed that it would not impact earnings in the short term, that is, this year. However, the ban could impact the company's earnings next year because China is a major customer. The company also added that it would impact the development of solutions in the medium to long term, but it was not clear what that meant.
Ultimately, this is a measure that primarily affects Nvidia, but it could soon also affect AMD, Intel, and other US companies developing AI solutions.
