Applying the most modern technology to the pig farming industry
According to the Agriculture and Environment newspaper, the pig farming industry plays a key role in the food supply chain. Experts emphasize that restructuring the industry towards controlling input costs, promoting linkages and applying technology is the “key” to maintaining production efficiency, improving competitiveness and expanding opportunities to conquer international markets.
Sharing at the Pig Industry Trade Promotion Forum within the framework of the 1st National Pig Industry Science and Technology Conference (PST2025) recently held at the University of Forestry Branch (Dong Nai), Mr. Dang Hoang Lam, Deputy Director of Megavet Vietnam Veterinary Joint Stock Company said that Megavet is coordinating with partners to deploy a smart technology system integrating artificial intelligence (AI) in semen production, breeding and selection of pig breeds.
These systems help evaluate semen quality, perform accurate ultrasound, and support effective breeding, thereby improving reproductive performance and commercial meat quality. In particular, AI-integrated ultrasound software helps screen superior breeding stock right at the farm or through a remote image processing center.
“We have cooperated with the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture to establish a technology transfer training center, fully equipped with modern equipment to train technicians, students and farmers to access new technology. The company has also organized many training courses for large corporations and partners nationwide,” Mr. Lam shared.
According to Mr. Lam, in the future, farmers of any scale will be able to access AI technology more easily, by sending ultrasound images to the analysis center, instead of having to invest in a separate system at the farm.
