Gia Lai: People and vehicles are banned from the streets from the afternoon of November 6.

On the afternoon of November 6, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province announced a road closure for both people and vehicles to proactively prevent storm No. 13 (storm Kalmaegi).

According to the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, super typhoon No. 13 (Kalmaegi storm) with a strength of level 14, gusting to level 17 - an extremely dangerous level will make landfall in Gia Lai this evening (November 6). Therefore, the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee requests all people in the eastern part of the province (formerly Binh Dinh province) to stay off the roads from 3:30 p.m., and prohibits all vehicles from traveling on the roads from 5:00 p.m. today.

Regarding storm prevention, by 4 p.m., all vessels in Gia Lai province had received information about storm No. 13. All fishing vessels in the province had safely anchored ashore, and no fishing vessels were operating in the storm's affected area. The Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee also announced a sea ban from 5 p.m. on November 5 until the last news about the storm.

The Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee has also activated the storm response scenario of level 5 in 16 communes and wards in the eastern part of the province. Up to now, the evacuation work has been completed.

Gia Lai Provincial Police force coordinated with the Party Committee and authorities of communes and wards to evacuate 10,820 households with 29,755 people to storm shelters. When people reached safe places, the Police force and other units organized places to rest, cook and ensure service for people during the storm.

The Gia Lai Provincial Civil Defense Command warns that coastal areas in Gia Lai need to be on guard against rising sea levels accompanied by large waves causing flooding in low-lying areas, waves overflowing dikes, coastal roads, and coastal erosion. All ships, boats, and aquaculture areas in the above-mentioned dangerous areas are strongly affected by storms, whirlwinds, strong winds, large waves, and rising sea levels.

From this evening, on the mainland in the eastern part of Gia Lai province, the wind will gradually increase to level 6-7, gusting to level 8-9, near the eye of the storm it will increase to level 10-13, gusting to level 15-16. In the western part of Gia Lai province, the wind will gradually increase to level 6-7, near the eye of the storm it will increase to level 8-9, gusting to level 11.

At the same time, from the afternoon of November 6-7, the eastern region of Gia Lai province will have very heavy rain with common rainfall of 200-400mm/period, locally over 600mm/period; the western region of Gia Lai province will have heavy to very heavy rain with common rainfall of 100-200mm/period, locally over 300mm/period.

From November 8, heavy rains in the above areas tend to decrease, warning of the risk of heavy rain in a short period of time. In addition, due to the influence of the wide storm circulation, people in the area need to be on guard against the risk of thunderstorms, whirlwinds and strong gusts of wind both before and during the storm's landfall.
