From July 1, 2025, Gia Lai and Binh Dinh provinces will merge to form the new Gia Lai province with a natural area of ​​over 21,576 km² (the second largest in the country) and a population of over 3.5 million people. Gia Lai province is a unique combination of "martial arts land" and wild beauty, imbued with the cultural identity of the Central Highlands ethnic groups.

It is the unique natural conditions of the sea, mountains and forests and the Central Highlands culture that have created the unique cultural values ​​of Gia Lai, forming key tourism products such as sea, mountain, highland ecological and community resort tourism... In addition, Gia Lai province identifies culture as a solid spiritual foundation and an important endogenous resource to promote rapid and sustainable socio-economic development.

After the merger, the need for investment in cultural institutions, heritage conservation and human resource development in Gia Lai province has increased significantly. In the context of limited local budget resources, the province hopes to have attention and investment from the central government to preserve many important historical and cultural relics that have deteriorated.

Therefore, Gia Lai is expected to become a new growth pole, developing comprehensively, complementing each other between the sea and the plateau. The province also identifies culture as a solid spiritual foundation and an important endogenous resource to promote rapid and sustainable socio-economic development.

After the merger, the need for investment in cultural institutions, heritage conservation and human resource development in Gia Lai province has increased significantly. However, local budget resources are still limited. Many important historical and cultural relics and the basic cultural infrastructure system have degraded, requiring investment attention from central capital.

Unleashing resources for the development of culture, sports, tourism and information

Gia Lai's concerns were shared at a working session with Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung on the development of culture, sports and tourism in the province on October 17.

At the meeting, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee proposed a number of recommendations related to the planning contents of the conservation, restoration and rehabilitation of the Tay Son Thuong Dao relic complex; organizing the 9th Gia Lai International Traditional Martial Arts Festival in 2026 and organizing a number of sports events in the province; as well as a number of solutions to unleash resources for the development of culture, sports, tourism and information in the province...

Minister Nguyen Van Hung agreed with the goals and development orientations of Gia Lai province. In the coming period, the Minister suggested that Gia Lai province continue to identify culture as the spiritual foundation and driving force of development, leading the entire process of construction and sustainable development of the province.

In sports development, the Minister assessed Gia Lai as a locality with strengths in sports development. In the coming period, the province needs to focus on developing mass sports to contribute to taking care of people's health, achieving targets on human health care.

Regarding tourism, the Minister said that in the spirit of developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector, Gia Lai, in addition to key products of eco-tourism, discovery, sea and island tourism, etc., the province needs to develop tourism products that are outstanding, different, and touch emotions; must rely on culture to develop tourism, creating a modern cultural, sports and tourism ecosystem of Gia Lai province, imbued with the identity of the great forest and blue sea.
