On October 30, Mr. Ngo Quoc Hung - Principal of Phuoc Thang Secondary School (Tuy Phuoc Dong Commune, Gia Lai Province) said that due to prolonged heavy rain, the school was deeply flooded for the past two days, and students could not go to class.

According to Mr. Hung, the school is located in a low-lying area, and the rising rainwater caused the schoolyard and many classrooms to be flooded more than 30cm. Since October 29, the school has been forced to temporarily suspend classes and mobilize teachers to arrange tables and chairs and move teaching equipment to higher places to avoid damage.
“Although my house was also affected by the storm and flood, to ensure teaching and learning, I stayed up all night to monitor the water level in the school grounds. As of 4 a.m. this morning, the water was still deep into 5 classrooms and continued to rise, possibly flooding the offices and function rooms, so students could not go to class yet,” Mr. Hung shared.

According to Mr. Hung, after the flood receded, the school organized cleaning, sanitation and disinfection to ensure safety for students when they returned to school.
Phuoc Thang Secondary School currently has 538 students. In previous years, during the rainy season, flooding often occurred, affecting teaching and learning. Mr. Hung hopes that all levels and sectors will soon pay attention to investing in upgrading the school yard, classrooms and building fences and drainage systems, so that teachers and students can feel secure in teaching and learning during the rainy season.
