According to the local government report, Huu Tan village has 232 households with nearly 780 people, living in low-lying areas along Kien Giang river and in the middle of Hac Hai lagoon. Every rainy season, the water level often rises, in some places it is over 1 meter high, making travel and daily activities extremely difficult. During the recent heavy rains, more than half of the households in the village had their houses flooded, many properties were damaged, and people had to temporarily evacuate to higher ground.
