Natural disaster in Lam Dong kills 1 person, causes nearly 41 billion VND in damage

From October 26 to 30, natural disasters killed one person and caused damage in many localities in the east of Lam Dong province.

On the afternoon of October 30, at the regular October meeting of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Phan Nguyen Hoang Tan gave a preliminary report on the impact and damage caused by natural disasters since October 26.

Floods swept away a resident of Lam Dong province. On October 28, authorities found the victim's body and handed it over to his family.

Thousands of houses had their roofs blown off and were flooded from 0.5 to 1.5 meters. Among these, Luong Son commune (650 houses), Hong Thai commune (80 houses)... had the highest number of flooded houses. The flooding caused many people's properties to be swept away or damaged.

The natural disaster also damaged hundreds of hectares of crops and shrimp farms. Among these, the communes of Ham Thuan Bac, Ham Thuan, Hong Son, Luong Son, Hiep Thanh... suffered the most damage, from 200 hectares to more than 1,200 hectares.

Regarding infrastructure, traffic, and urban areas, floods have damaged many roads, drainage systems, and the Song Cat dike. Three major traffic routes leading from the provincial administrative center to Lam Dong Bien Xanh have many landslides, affecting people's travel.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment said that as of 10am on October 30, natural disasters had caused nearly 41 billion VND in damage. It is forecasted that in the coming time, the damage will continue to increase because some localities still have scattered rain, high rainfall and water from upstream flows into the rivers.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Provincial Civil Defense Command and other departments and branches continue to go to affected and damaged communes and wards to grasp the situation and direct relevant units to urgently deploy response measures and overcome the damage.

Up to now, authorities have assisted in the evacuation or provided food to thousands of people facing difficulties caused by floods.

At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Trong Yen said that the natural disaster situation was most complicated in the eastern part of the province. Along with implementing plans to respond to heavy rains and floods in the area, the leaders of the Provincial People's Committee and localities also directed resolutely and strictly implemented the "4 on-site" motto, limiting damage, especially ensuring safety for people.
