Da Nang: Humanity in the flood-hit area of Thang An

ĐNO - The rapid rise in floodwaters submerged many residential areas in Thang An commune, especially in Tra Doa I and Tra Doa II villages. In the midst of the flood, dozens of fishermen from the former Binh Minh commune voluntarily brought their motorboats into the deep flooded area, coordinated with the authorities to evacuate people and provide necessities to isolated households.

Mr. Nguyen Loi and the fishing team of Ha Binh village are on duty regularly at the Animal Husbandry crossroads (Tra Doa II village).

With nearly 20 motorboats mobilized from Ha Binh, Tan An, Binh Tinh villages..., fishermen coordinated smoothly with functional forces to evacuate people from dangerous areas to safe places and supply food, food, and drinking water to households that were stuck or evacuated on the spot.

"As a fisherman at sea, familiar with the river, seeing people in the flood area in difficulty, I immediately do whatever I can to help," Mr. Loi said.

In the fight against floods, the motorboat proved to be very effective.

Unlike large motorboats that have difficulty getting into deeply flooded alleys and small hamlets, small flexible basket boats have become a suitable means of reaching each household. This mobility has helped the relief work to take place more quickly and effectively.

Thanks to that, many cases were rescued in time, including Ms. Nguyen Thi Tien (group 4, Tra Doa I village), living alone in a level 4 house next to the Truong Giang river bank, trapped when the flood water rose.

Ms. Tien said that when she knew the flood was coming, she moved her belongings to higher ground and took temporary shelter at her younger brother’s sturdy house nearby. However, the water level rose so quickly that the area became dangerous. She sent out an emergency distress signal.

Immediately, the fishermen's motorboat team received orders to approach and take her to a safe area, to the evacuation site prepared by the commune.

The timely response of the rescue team helped her avoid danger and felt warm in the midst of the disaster. “Thank you very much for your timely help. The water rose so quickly, without this help, I don’t know what would have happened,” Mrs. Tien emotionally shared.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Thanh (Ha Binh village, Thang An commune) said that in recent days, about 50 motorized baskets from villages of the old Binh Minh commune have been present at the deeply flooded areas of Thang An commune every day. This joint effort has contributed to the local government and functional forces in protecting the safety of people's lives and property.

“Seeing the people of Binh Dao and the old Binh Trieu in many places deeply flooded, we felt so sorry, so we volunteered to help them overcome the flood. These past few days, we have been on duty at the assigned locations, ready to go in and out at any time when needed,” said Nguyen Minh Thanh.

In difficult times, the spirit of “fishermen saving people” spread throughout the flooded area of Thang An. Each basket boat not only carried food and water, but also carried the hearts of the children of the sea towards their fellow countrymen in distress.

Amidst the vast flood, humanity is the most noble act, helping people to stay strong and overcome the fierce flood season.

On the afternoon of October 30, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thang Dien commune and socio-political organizations went directly to flooded areas in An Thai, An Thanh 1, An Thanh 2, An Thanh 3, Tu Nghia, Tu Phuong, Tu Nghia, Tu Son, and Dong Xuan villages to support people with necessities.

On October 30, the above areas were still deeply flooded, the only means of access to support essential goods for the people were boats and canoes. Particularly in An Thai village, a large number of the village's youth force participated in transporting goods and essential goods deep into the flooded areas.
