From the Military Region’s frontline command post for flood and storm prevention, information about landslides and isolation continued to pour in. However, in the pouring rain, officers and soldiers of the 270th Engineer Brigade remained steadfast in accepting the emergency marching order, determined to open the way to rescue people.

The terrain was complex with landslides, many sections of the road were deeply gouged and collapsed. The engineering teams were both marching and troubleshooting. Every step, every pickaxe was covered in mud. It took hours of effort and determination for the forces to reach Tra Leng.

The Engineering Corps mobilized specialized equipment to Tra Leng.

In Tra Leng, the whole space was filled with the smell of mud, soil, and the cold dampness of the mountains and forests. More than 40 large and small landslides were scattered throughout the commune, traffic was paralyzed, and villages 4, 5, 6, and 7 were completely isolated. Huge blocks of earth and rock blocked the roads, roofs collapsed, and furniture was swept away, leaving only cold, wet ground.

The rain was heavy and the mud was slippery, but the soldier's sleeves never stopped.

Amid the cold rain, Major Pham Dinh Phu, the Doosan excavator driver, was still working diligently. The rain soaked his back, but his hands were still steady on the control lever. In just the first day, he and his teammates cleared 5 major landslides, opening the way to Tra Leng Ethnic Boarding School.

Engineers conducted a field survey and assessed the landslide site.

Soldiers, militia and local people worked together to clean up the rubble. The sound of engines and rain mixed with words of encouragement: “Come on guys, just a little more and the road will be clear!”
