Overcoming difficulties at "fence"

The old Muong Nhe district, the westernmost land of the country, is not only a symbol of strong will but also a place that preserves many touching stories about the career of "cultivating people". The majority of students here are children of ethnic minorities, many of whom have to travel dozens of kilometers through the forest to get to school. In the rainy season, the stream water rises, the roads are muddy and slippery, making the journey to class a difficult one.

Muong Nhe Ethnic Boarding Secondary School is still facing many difficulties in terms of facilities: subject classrooms, dormitories, dining halls, toilets, clean water facilities, etc. are all lacking or have deteriorated. Many families are still poor, children’s education is not taken seriously by many parents, and the rate of students at risk of dropping out of school is still high.

However, in those difficult times, the school’s teaching staff remained steadfast in their mission of “spreading knowledge”. They were committed to their profession with a sense of responsibility, love and creativity, gradually affirming the school’s position in the education of the border region.

Transformation through effort and solidarity

In the 2024-2025 school year, Muong Nhe Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities has 60 staff, teachers, employees and 1,146 students. With the attention and direction of the industry and local authorities, along with the spirit of solidarity and innovation, the school has achieved many outstanding results.

The teaching staff is the foundation for success: 33 teachers are excellent teachers at the school level, 19 teachers are excellent teachers at the district level (old title), 8 teachers are excellent teachers at the provincial level; the school won the first prize for the whole group at the excellent teachers competition at the district level (old). Many individuals were honored: 12 Emulation Soldiers at the grassroots level, 10 individuals were commended by the District People's Committee, 2 individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Provincial People's Committee and 1 teacher was awarded the Third Class Labor Medal by the President , a great pride for teachers in the highlands.

The school was also nominated for the title of “Excellent Labor Collective”. These achievements are a testament to the perseverance, dedication and sense of responsibility of the staff and teachers in the journey to change the face of knowledge in the homeland.

Not only improving the quality of the staff, the school also made a breakthrough in the quality of students. The rate of mobilizing students to attend classes in the whole commune is always above 98%, 100% of boarding students have meals and accommodation at school, ensuring nutrition and food hygiene and safety.

The overall quality of education has been significantly improved: 99.6% of students achieved the "Achieved" moral grade or higher (of which 69.5% were classified as Good); 97.7% of students achieved the "Achieved" academic grade or higher, with good and excellent students accounting for more than 49%. The school has 141 excellent students at the school level, and 14 outstanding students.

Notably, in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year, the school ranked 16th out of 123 junior high schools in the province, with Math ranking 8th out of 123. Two students of the school passed the entrance exam to Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, 16 students passed the entrance exam to the Provincial Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, and 39 students passed the entrance exam to Muong Nhe Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities. These are numbers that affirm the school's solid professional quality and increasingly widespread reputation.

Innovation for sustainable development

The Board of Directors has identified that improving the quality of the staff is the key solution. The school regularly organizes professional training, teaching demonstrations, competitions for excellent teachers, thematic activities, etc. to create a competitive environment of "Teaching well - Learning well". Teachers are encouraged to apply information technology, innovate teaching methods, differentiate teaching according to students' abilities, and innovate testing and assessment according to the orientation of developing qualities and abilities.

The work of nurturing gifted students is implemented systematically and has a long-term roadmap. Right from the beginning of the grade, teachers proactively discover and select gifted students, and develop appropriate review plans. Many teachers volunteer to stay in the evening or during holidays to tutor and guide students. Last school year, the school had 165 students winning district-level prizes (an increase of 61 prizes compared to the previous school year), including 8 first prizes, 33 second prizes, 58 third prizes and 34 encouragement prizes; at the provincial level, 5 students won prizes, and the proudest thing is that 1 student won the national first prize in the IOE competition.

In addition, coordination between school - family - local government is carried out regularly. At regular meetings of the commune, the Board of Directors reports on the situation of students, coordinates with village chiefs and organizations to encourage students who have dropped out of school to return to school. The commune government pays attention to supporting the construction of facilities and promptly pays boarding fees to help students feel secure in studying.

The school also promotes the socialization of education, mobilizing resources to repair and upgrade classrooms, dormitories, kitchens, restrooms, and playgrounds. Thanks to that, the school landscape is increasingly spacious, green, clean, beautiful, and friendly to students in the highlands.

With love for the profession, dedication and social responsibility, each teacher here is a "keeper of knowledge", bringing light to students in the highlands.

Mr. Duong Tien Cong - Principal of the school shared: "In the middle of a remote border area, each teacher is a beacon of knowledge. We will continue to strive to bring ethnic minority students the best learning environment, helping them to rise up with knowledge, contributing to changing their homeland."

From the northernmost point of the country, the flame of knowledge of teachers and students of Muong Nhe Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities is still shining, contributing to narrowing the regional gap and fostering a bright future for generations of students in the mountainous region of Dien Bien .
